iPod prices

So why is it that a new 6GB iPod mini retails for $249, yet a Sony PSP is also going for that same price. Doesn't think make the iPod, and digital music players in general, seem overly priced?

Aren't you reliant on memory sticks with the PSP to play MP3's though? Or is there an internal hard drive?

The ipod is a status symbol too, so they can price it higher and people will still pay for it.

Depending on what you can do with the PSP (besides play movies, games, music), I might pick one up, it looks like a neat toy.

I went to the gym last night at my University. There were about 30 people there. Atleast 20 of them had an IPod of some sorts. I was counting. While overpriced, they still sell.

That whopping 32MB flash in the PSP will get ya far too. You should probably be comparing it to the $99 iPod Shuffle 512MB (or 16 of them).

I guess it is not a fair comparison.

PSP is subsidised by the royalties recieved from the sale of games.

This is true. Most gaming hardware is sold at a loss for the manufacturer. They make obscene profits through licensing and sale of games.

Remember how Microsoft was taking a loss on XBox hardware for a long time?

They still are. Why do you think they are so anxious to kill it by releasing the Xbox2 this year? The power chord recall could have be catastrophic because what really needs to be replaced is the power supply, not the chord. They just replaced the chord with one with a breaker. Bad news.

The reason is that Sony is coming out with a PS3, Nintendo is coming out with their next generation console also, and therefore Microsoft needs to come out with one also to compete. Since nearly half of all video game sales are during the holiday season, it only makes sense to introduce it in time for the holiday season. Delaying it until January would be horrible for sales.

Well the could have done a Q4 2006 release but they desperately need to kill off the current Xbox. It's a money sink. The new design will be much cheaper to manufacture.

They also think releasing before the PS3 is a good move. Dumb move if you ask me.

Have you ever though about those blank umd disc? They say it might happen. PSP is awesome get a 1gb stick and watch a 700mb video.

Um, that's not entirely true. Only certain ones have breakers on them. The majority of XBox replacement cords are the slim ones.

sony is losing $100 every time they sell a psp. I looks like a great gadget and is on w whole nother level compared the current nintendo handhelds.

Man, after reading some stuff online, I really want a PSP now. I guess that mini, or digicam(canon sd300) will just have to wait.

To bad the first round of preorders are gone, and the second round are sooo expensive.

Anybody know were to get in on the second round, with just the value pack (249.00) and not a bundle?

I got in on the second shipment at gamestop. $249.00

This thing could be the coolest, or the dumbest gadget I've ever gotten.

Apples (pardon the pun) and oranges. Would you say a 17in LCD monitor is overpriced because you can get a 27in TV for the same price?
