lol.... Slashdot is at it again.

Anyways... $599? That is rediculous. I've disliked iPods in the past becuase of how overpriced and underfeatured they are, but wow... this takes the cake. "Razor sharp display"??? Yeah... 220x176 is razor f'ing sharp. Well time for more mindless idiots to rush out and buy the latest overpriced peice of crap apple puts out.

Don't get me wrong, they do make some quality stuff, but compared to the rest of the market, the iPod is a horrible deal.

15,000 songs huh...? How about keeping it around 5-10 GB and improving the features on those and slashing the price. Oh, you won't make as much money that way? You like laughing at people who actually think they need 15,000 songs?

I'm sorry, Apple just annoys the crap out of me sometimes.

The $600 price tag is a bit atrocious... I was hoping for a 60gb no color no photo for $500...
I honestly like the look of the
Sony Vaio would have been cool but for $500, 40gb, CRAPPY sounding proprietary codecs and player, the ipod looks a whole lot better. Besides I have tried alot of MP3 players from i-o data, rio, Muvo, etc and I always liked my old ipod the best. Plus, Itunes makes the package that much sweeter. To be honest I dont know if I would buy a $600 ipod if it didnt have Itunes. Time to upgrade I think. $600... is painful though. At least it makes a handy slim firewire drive too which is helpful for my work. I often need to carry large movie and presentation files around.

Way too expensive. (although I would want one of each)

But heck, its a luxury to have an Ipod right? I'll stick with my $40 walmart RCA mp3 player.😀

Y'know there ARE other iPods... you don't have to own the best one. I think $299 MSRP is okay for a 20GB 4G (which means you can probably pick one up for < $250 if you look hard) and a hardly used 15GB 3G can be had for well under $200. I used to scoff at iPods too... that is until I started playing with one, and then I went out and bought it. The interface and design are fantastic, and in conjunction with iTunes... I just can't see myself owning another Mp3 player. Yeah, there's cheaper stuff with more capacity for the money, but if you want premium you're gonna pay for it. Plus, it gives you an excuse to buy a BMW, haha.

I think most people who flame the iPod don't despise the device itself so much as the hype surrounding it, because if they own it they'll just be jumping on the yuppy bandwagon. Well f*ck that; if it's good stuff I'm gonna buy it.

Anyway, I'm sure the price of color iPods will fall into an affordable price range in a reasonable amount of time. There's no way in hell I'd pay $499 for the ability to view PICTURES. Now if they had a $299 or $399 iPod that played VIDEO, I'd jump right on it (a deal on one, of course).

Why don't they improve the pathetic battery life instead of coming out with this useless crap? Currently their 10hr/charge (6hr on mini) is just a deal breaker.

The thing is, they should have just went to a movie format also, create a little bit bigger screen and the ability to watch movies on the thing.

for $600 the thing should be able to play movies... who the hell wants a color screen that will show images and show you the title of the song in color....

whoopeeedeeeedooooodaadaaaaaay...

Does the U2 ipod have the 15 hr battery life? I'm thinking about buying an ipod within the next couple of weeks, is it safe to say there isn't going to be a new version for a few months?
