iPod owners.. quick question.

Platypus

Lifer
I do a lot of jogging around campus, and I was wondering how well the HD would hold up under that.. Does it skip? Does anyone who has one run and could help me out with this question?

Thanks

I've never had the thing skip - you have to figure, it has a 32 meg buffer on top of the HDD, so no, I can't say I've ever had mine skip at all. They're great, GET ONE!

DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I JUST WENT TO GRAB MY IPOD AND IT SLIPPED OUT OF MY HAND AND HIT THE FLOOR. Ahhhhh!!!!!

Now its frozen on one screen and i cant turn it off or do anything! 🙁 I Cant even opent he damn thing. I take my last statement back 🙁

I usually go to the gym every night and run for about 30 minutes. My ipod is about a year old and hasn't skipped so far. Since I have the old one(mechanical wheel) the wheel is a bit loose but you can just switch the hold button on. So it would probably be fine.

Thank god for the reset button. Woo. Fixed 🙂

high impact sports like jogging or dropping it doesn't run the risk of the drive heads crashing? (that is hitting the surface of the disk and doing physical damage resulting in bad sectors and more)

That's kind of what I was asking..

I just got mine today...just in the nick of time because I'm going out of town tomorrow for a wedding...all weekend...so boring.

Anyway, from what I have heard, the iPod can handle jogging/running like a champ. With a that 32MB buffer it shouldn't skip at all. Also, the hard drive was designed to handle that kind of stress, so it's all good.

I just ran up and down the steps actually. At first I was tentative, but then I realized it's okay and went all out stair climbing! 😉

I think the 5 GB model is better than the larger ones for jogging. I have a 10 GB iPod and it will eventually skip if I run with it.

They have a 5 gig model?

edit: in stock somewhere?

The iPod was originally 5 GB only, and that is still the base model. Anyone selling iPods will have 5 GB ones available.
