iPod or SanDisk Sensa for fiance'?

I had to make this same decision. Since my GF is used to my iPod and since I don't trust Windows Media Player that much (it's not as fool-proof as iTunes IMHO), I got her an iPod. Nothing against the Sansa, but iPod + iTunes just makes the decision easier for me.

For addon accessories iPod but well since I do work for an extended warranty company I do see many iPods failing just after manufacturer warranty ends or sometimes just after 6 months and you gotta pay Apple $50 to replace it for you.

Congratulations on your impending Civil Union, do you live in New Jersey or Massachussets? 😛

Seriously though, the iPod works on simplicity, plus you can give her (yuck) ITMS giftcards as future gifts.

As Bootprint asks, if she has had other non-iPod players previously, the Sansa would be a breeze for her to use.

Also, if she goes to the gym, the FM tuner is a must have if TV audio is broadcast via FM, like at many gyms.

That said, I love my 6GB Sansa, it really is the best bang for the buck player out there.

Does she have any sort of MP3 player at the moment?
If she does she might find the Sensa easier, depending on how she transfered her mp3s before.

Just curious to those that are suggesting the Ipod. Does it not matter the Sansa has a better feature set? Of course, the Ipod pwns in accessories, but it's almost over the top some of the stuff they have...

4GB Creative Zen V Plus also in the mix!

I got my mom the Sandisk 2gb, and I bought myself the Creative Zen V Plus 8GB. I couldnt be happier, and I know my mom will love the sandisk esp with the ability to add on a sd card.

I biggest decision maker: I dont like Itunes. With Creative, i have to use the creative explorer, but I can take music off of my player and back it up as I see fit. With the itunes + apple ipod, this process is very unfriendly. Its possible, but you have to go through a bit of effort to get the files, and then rename them back to normal.

Creative Zen V Plus if she likes a very compact player and has small fingers (for the joystick). If she already uses Itunes for music on her computer, then Ipod makes most sense. If she doenst use Itunes or hates it, then its a toss up between the creative and sansa. I give the nod to the creative as it has a lower noise floor.

If this matters...

It took me 10 minutes to learn how to use an ipod.
It took me 2 minutes to learn how to use the Zen V Plus.
It took me 5 minutes to learn how to use the Sanza.

not even a question, ipod all the way. sandisc has far less value as a present... u know.. prestige..must have type fashion thing. plus the accessory selection for the ipod can't be beat. and the sansa is not really superior in the other ways that matter so its not worth bothernig with

If I was going to go Sansa I'd go with their E series. But as Tiamat points out Creative should be seriously considered in the mix.

What features over the iPod would a "tyical" girl care about? iTunes and the iPod are simplicity at its finest. What does a girl want to do with a DAP? Play music and play it easily. My father is getting a shuffle for Christmas for a few reasons: SUPER easy to use, SUPER small, and iTunes. He's also getting an iTunes GC so he can just download the music he wants.

I also got my wife and iPod Nano for Christmas last year and she LOVES it.

iPod pros:
One of the nicest designs I have ever seen.
Lots of accessories.
iTunes is easy to use

iPod cons:
Poor quality battery.
Poor reliability. Do not expect it to last much more than 2 years.
The surface is not scratch-resistant.
Apple's customer service is horrible, at least in Denmark. It has gotten so bad that several of the biggest retailer chains are seriously considering boycotting Apple.
iTunes, while easy to use, is in many ways quite bad.

the ipod man!
the sandisk is cool but let's face it it has more drawbacks and complaints at the moment. Sandisk might come out with the "ipod killer" in 2007 but let's face it it's not in the current lineup.
also how much does your gf know about mp3 players, if she doesn't even know who sandisk is she will think you went the cheap route without knowing better. also there are a lot more accessories she can get for her ipod to make it hers and is easier to use (maybe even itunes is)

so yes for now stick with the ipod
