iPod Nano's battery life...

so i got myself a 2gb Black nano...and i'm scratching my head on how this thing can do 14 hours...mine last about 6-8 hours....with a full charge...no i didnt play games or do a lot of fiddling with it....

how long does it last for you guys ?

6-8 hours is standard. 14 hours is bloated marketing for you, im sure you can get 14 hours if you listen volume at 10%, turn off your backlight, and let it play straight through. but most likely you won't do that, so don't expect it.

yeap...i connected it to my pc...started transfering songs and left it to be charged...and only disconected it after a few hours...it was alr fully charged then...

You need to calibrate the battery 1st. Then you have to factor in the format of the music you're playing and how you play it. You get longer battery life w/ 128kbps encoded AAC tracks in straight order.

hmmm....could it be that i only charge it for 3-4 hours...instead of 8-10 hours...like how we charge other batteries for the first time...

I can easily get 8hrs. Most of my MP3s are alt-preset-extreme (220kbps variable, I believe).


Now I'm just waiting for THIS to arrive at the end of the month!

I thought 14 hours is the mini, and 8-10 hours is the standard for the nano

My brother's ipod video does not get much more than 6-8 hours either. Apple just inflates their numbers when it comes to expected battery life.

If you have a 128kbps MP3 that is 15 hours long and you turn off the backlight and equalizer, I wonder how long it will run.

Also remember battery life depends on how you encode your music. Higher bitrates, VBR, more complex algorithms take more power to decode. Listening volume also affects battery life, as does backlight usage.

there is no hard drive, why would playing songs in order have any effect on battery life?

what does the manual say? sometimes the first charge needs to be like 5~8 hours.

Get smaller music files. I think that improves battery life greatly.

urm...that's exactly what i mean...but i did not read the manual...i just notice the batt indicator showing full charge...i un-hook it...

Wouldn't a higher bitrate consitute as a less resource intensive job? Because it's more closely representing the true song? Less compression etc...? Or possibly it's the same across the board...
