I am getting my girlfriend a new 4gb pink Nano. Can the Nano work with Firewire for both transferring files and charging?

The tech Specs on the Apple website state that a USB2.0 port is required, but it also states that an iPod Firewire cable + Firewire power brick can be used to charge the iPod.

So ... can you transfer files via Firewire on a 2nd gen ipod Nano?

Okay, I have another question.

With a split cable with USB and Firewire work? For a while, they sold a cable with a Y-joint that had both connections.

Nope, last iPod that supported that was the Photo. The Nano and onwards don't, that includes 1G and 2G Nano, and the 5G/5.5G iPods.

Lame! Why would Apple do that to me :(

Exactly what I was thinking. Firewire is/was the Apple standard. Now they abandon it?!

It is strange. I would think since Apple made firewire they would support it on their devices. Also isn't firewire generally pretty standard these days? Most motherboards come with it built in.

Okay, I have another question.

With a split cable with USB and Firewire work? For a while, they sold a cable with a Y-joint that had both connections.

No, Firewire will not work for the data transfers at all, only charging.

No no, the cable has a USB2.0 connection and a Firewire connection. The other end has the iPod connection.

Just wondering if it makes a difference that it is USB and Firewire on one cable.

I understand and have seen the cable before. The only way to get data on and off of the iPods I mentioned is a USB cable. Firewire will only charge it.

But if I use the USB2.0 connector on it, it will work for syncing. That is all I am saying.
