Hey all,

I have heard that there are going to be PC. Compatible Ipod knockoffs coming out soon. Has anybody heard this? What I have heard is that the knockoffs will be cheaper and have larger harddrives but be about the same size. Has anybody heard anything about this??

hmm, since when are competing products "knock-offs"?

The RioRiot is no more a knock off of the iPod than the Athlon is of the PIII.

It takes about a year to develop a product like this, so I hardly see who you can consider Archos JukeBox or the RioRiot "knockoffs".

By your mentaliry, isn't the iPod a knockoff itself of the Nomad Jukebox?

I think a knockoff is something made much cheaper (because the original took lots of R&D to make) but similar to the original.
If you think the IPOD was something totally different or better, then it's not really a knockoff...it's an...innovation I guess...

No need for IPOD knock offs...its works fine with PCs via a separate firewire or integrated (ex. sb audigy firewire) port. Got a friend that is using it with no probs. However, after some thought, the IPOD is not really a great solution...the storage is too big and most people don't want to search through that many songs to find one to listen too.

I guess as portable storage, for files etc. its an interesting solution. On the other hand, larger external hard drivers offer better bang for the buck.

I forgot to add that it does require some additional software to function properly.

PC owners carrying around a MAC device is like a straight guy with a dildo...you know he's up to no good.

Yes, but you are ignoring the fact that knock-offs can't come 2 months later. It takes AT LEAST a year to make this kind of device, so its simply impossible to look at the iPod and then have knock offs of it 3 months later. Rio and Archos spend thier own money doing their own R&D and shouldn't be called knock offs.
