ipod in car question

is there any way to hook up your ipod to your car without that fm transmitter which i am a bit skecptical of....is there a direct connection of something you can do

or anyone with the fm transmitter...how does it work....do you have an aftermarket system in your car ezxtc
 
Depending on the type of car that you have you can hook it up to your factory head unit. You can by a device that will allow you to control some functions of the ipod through your head unit. It does this by emulating a CD changer. You can use an aftermarket head unit for this as well. Google for Denison Icelink, that should be a good place to start.
 
well i curently already have an aftermarket pioner head unit...model 6400ph or something like that....with brand new speakers and subs

i want cd player sound
 
You could use an FM modulator to hook it up. They basically hook up through the antenna in on the stereo and have a set of RCA inputs on them. So a 3.5mm to RCA cord hooked into that modulator would work fine.
 
The problem with FM modulators is that the sound quality can suffer quite a bit compared to a direct connection. Also, if you live in a city that has a congested FM band a modulator will not work very well.
 
The FM modulator IS a direct connection. I don't think you understood my post KoolAidKid. The FM modulator I have runs directly into the antenna input (hardline) on my deck. When I turn my modulator on it cuts off the antenna feed and starts feeding from the modulator. It is a DIRECT feed, it does NOT go through the air at all.

My fault, I thought you were talking about FM transmitters. In any case, converting your ipod's output to an FM signal will result in inferior sound quality. FM modulators produce sound quality equal to a strong FM signal. Nowhere near CD quality, in other words. See here.

Modulators are pretty cheap, though, so if sound quality isn't of supreme importance to you they may be the way to go.
 
yea, still fm quality.. the alpine even displays track info. costs more..but thats how it is. that or buy a beamer😉
