For me iTunes is what sells the iPod. Now, I may have a slightly different music selection compared with your average MP3 listener - I follow DMB fan recordings at concerts and therefore have 30+ variations on the more popular songs. iTunes's soup-style music library view allows me to create 'Best of' compilations easily by sorting by name and going through the list.
You can use iTunes with an MP3 player besides the iPod, it's just not as convinent.

I have a lot of DMB, Phish, and Dead bootlegs and have no trouble organizing them and listening to my favorites without iBloat... and what does your PC's player have to do with your portable player?
Edit: iBugs makes you put your music all in the same directory, yes? I can see how that would confuse people who want different songs with the same filenames, if they don't understand directory structure and that there are alternatives... but ATers should really know at least the basics...

No, actually iTunes will place your music in the normal Artist-Album folder arrangement that most people use. You have to toggle on the "Organise my music library" option.
I'm confused about your question though... Why would I want a seperate music library on my portable vs. on my computer? Ideally, I want one library, with both the comptuer and the portable having identical copies. iPod + iTunes makes this brain-dead simple.
I also don't understand the iBloat comment. I have a library of 2000+ songs, with both ID3v1.1 and ID3v2 tags because SageTV doesn't understand ID3v2. Playing, iTunes consumes 13,600kb of memory. I just checked. Firefox with two windows open consumes 35,236kb. Explorer.exe, with no windows open consumes 14,060kb. Svchost.exe, which manages SMB shares, etc. consumes 10,536kb with no active connections aside from my TCP/IP to the internet.
I've got 1GB of memory. 16MB isn't exactly breaking the bank.

Psst, don't argue logic when dealing with ipod fanboiz, they won't understand the concept till another five years or so (at 16).

I'm assuming he's referring to the thumb scroll wheel that's located on the upper right edge of the Carbon., thus yes, it's much easier for right-hander's. And yes, the Carbon kicks the iPod Mini's butt.
