Ipod help: AAC

So I have a windows based iPod and would like to squeeze some more files onto it converting my CDs (ripped to m.a. lossless) to AAC instead of MP3, any suggestions? I've used Easy CD-DA and listened to the results @ 96kbs - TERRIBLE! My MAC encoded (i'm bi-platform) AACs at that bitrate sound awesome but for some reason Easy CD's encoder must be terrible.. I've also tried dbpower- it's insanely slow but the output is good (my dual 1ghz mac takes maybe 30 seconds to output at the same quality that my 2.4+ ghz pc takes 160 seconds to output)... Any suggestions? I'm looking for a 100% pc based solution (god, I can't wait for iTunes on the pc!)
