Ipod dead?

I have an ipod mini that was given to me and when plugged into a pc it gives the battery charging icon and will allow me to do a reboot by pressing the menu + select keys. When it reboots it comes back to the charging screen. Windows never picks it up as a device and as soon as the usb/charger cable is removed it goes blank. Does this mean that the battery is just shot?

I have disassembled the device and have the battery out but before I bought one i wanted to make sure that was the only problem with the device and also wanted to know of a good place in the us to purchase a replacement.

Plug it in and let do a full charge - four hours.

After that download the iPod updater and format it.

Here is a link. This is a link to a 600mAh ipod mini battery. this increases you bettery life by about %50. Anyway, you should try plugging it in overnight like Questar said.

The ipod was charged for 2 days and it still didnt work. Is there anything other than the battery that could cause it?

sounds like the battery to me. I was playing around with 6 ipods in various states of death a couple months ago... that certainly seems consistent with what i saw.
