Howdy,
Just bought an iPod 1GB Shuffle, as I needed a 1GB flash drive, so spent a little extra to get an iPod.

Question: I've heard that the iPod software can only be installed on one PC, is this true? Are there workarounds?

Thanks,
PCM

Don't put on any iPod software. iTunes which can be installed on any computer for free picks up the iPod. I'm not sure what software you're speaking of but this should do the trick.

I thought iPod software was just iTunes which can be installed anymore. I've used my ipod on both my desktop and laptop just fine.

Yeah, if you plug in the iPod (Shuffle) into another machine, it'll ask you if you want to set it up with that machine--in which case it'll wipe out the music "partition" (not any space that you've reserved for storage space) and then proceede to reload it with stuff from the new machine.

You can also hit cancel, and it won't wipe anything out--useful if you want to keep the songs on it and just charge it in a new machine.

If you wanted to transport MP3s, I suppose you could just move them to the data partition and then transfer via explorer.

Edit: From what I understand, Shuffle's different on this count than a regular IPod. Also, this isn't the online music store/verification account. Just happens to wipe the songs off the ipod if you click yes on another machine.

yes, that's the only limitation. and it's only to play music downloaded from iTunes.

i'm curious to know what you mean by that. i don't think my iTunes (as a standalone program) is associated at all with an email address. is it?! if not, how would it be able to be used on 5 different PCs?

btw, i heard anapod is good too. i'd like to try it out someday.

u should have gotten a 1 gb creative muvo txfm, i think its cheaper and it needs no software. Has a Usb port built in so u can just plug it in without a cable. Also has a screen. I have the 512 version and love it.

As for the shuffle, shouldnt it just be reconized as a flash drive?
