I've got a 3g 40gb... it came with the firewire hub thing. But; I want to be able to use it on my laptop through usb. I've seen some aftermarket usb cables but do they charge it as well?

Thanks

Only charges via firewire... 🙁

I have the usb & firewire cable and do a lot with that, but really they should have thought about usb charging too in the 3rd gen because it was aimed at mac and pc...

I don't think USB is capable of providing the necessary current, it's why firewire was developed. Why else develop a standard that's approximately the same speed?

4G iPods can be recharged through a USB 2.0 (dunno about regular old USB) connector. However, I have heard that the recharge time is slower.
