The Nano uses Flash Memory

Christ, some people are THICK! That's what MY reply is in reference to!

The OP has NOT said what caused his "ipod bite the dust" yet, has he? Wanna bet it was the damn HDD?

Ornery... yes, hard drives crash and yes they're very fragile. You do know however that the ipod's hard drives are probably specially made so that they can withstand a certain amount of rough handling and what not.

I've got a 3rd gen ipod that's worked incredibly well, and I use it when riding bike, jogging, driving in my car, trips, anything I can think of

No sh!t sherlock...

I was talking in regards to Ornery's "fragile HDD" post...

And yes, it'd be a lot better to have a flash mp3 player than hard drive, but HARD DRIVES WORK JUST FINE!

The OP said he had "trouble justifying paying $50 more from something that has a fifth of the storage". I alluded to the fact that it's preferable to a fragile HDD instead. DAMN!

WTF do you have to say to the OP about "HARD DRIVES WORK JUST FINE", when that's probably the exact reason the fvckin' thing broke?
