iPhoto movies to iOS devices

I have a bunch of movies stored in my iphoto account. The movies were recorded from a Canon digital camera in .avi format. The files play fine in iPhoto but when I go into iTunes to sync them to my iPad or iPhone they don't show up.

I'm guessing because they are recorded in .avi format or because their resolution doesn't fit for either device. I went and converted them from .avi to .mov in visualhub. The only issue with that is the files' order is changed because their dates are modified. I saw there is a way to change that in terminal but thats a big pain.

Anyways, after I imported the new .mov files it still will not let me sync. Is there an easy way to do this besides what I am doing?

There are several iphone/ipad apps that will play most movie formats with ease. Off the top of my head I can only think of AV PLayer, but there are others. They work by creating a share folder in iTunes I believe (after connecting your device to your computer), which is where you drop the files into. This uploads the vidoes to your device, and when you launch the app, it will find the movies and play them. 🙂

Edit: Buzz Player is another one.

ah you know what the VLC app will probably work for this. I have yet to try it out. I think I downloaded it before it got pulled.

Edit: Oh and in itunes it was showing that only 1 movie was available to sync yet after I synced the iPad to it all of the "new" movies showed up. However, the dates are messed up because I modified them by converting them. ugh, hope that makes sense.

Just to clarify, with the apps like VLC and AV and BUZZ you aren't dragging and dropping movies onto your device in iTunes, you have to drag them to the specific folder for that app. I don't have an iPhone anymore, but I think you get there by selecting the app from the navigation on the left side of the screen (for your device).

Try copying those movies from iPhoto into iTunes. I don't think you can sync movies in iPhoto to your device.

Well, I got all of the movies in an "event" entitled movies. When I'm in iTunes and I have the iPad connected I can go to the tab and sync whatever event is in there.
