iPhoto-iMovie problem

So my friend and i were working on a video project for our Spanish class, and while taping it we accidentally left the camera on after a scene and it taped like seven minutes of useless video. Having run almost out of space, i just imported that video to my computer (through iPhoto) and deleted it off the camera. I'm starting to think this was a bad idea though, as I can't get that video from iPhoto to iMovie. The closest I've come is it telling me it's not a compatible format, which doesn't really make sense to me. I really need to get this video off of iPhoto so I can finish making the movie. Any advice on what to do?

Convert it to .dv format after copying it from iPhoto to the desktop.

Find a program that will convert the video you have to .dv format. I know VisualHub used to do it, but since it was discontinued, you could look for the free open source version, I don't remember the name.
