And here’s a really mind-blowing fact: Google’s revenue for all of FY 2014 was $66 billion, while Apple’s revenue for the holiday quarter alone was an astonishing $74.5 billion. This means that it took Apple just three months to generate more revenue than Google generated in an entire year.

An important distinction is that Apple is primarily a hardware company -- its expenses are much higher than for Google, which is mostly interested in search ads. All the same, it's a friendly reminder that Google's pervasiveness only matters so much for its bank balance. If you want to make a lot of cash, you need to sell products that command a lot of cash.

Larger iPhone is going to be great for Apple and Samsung might take some kind of hit from this. But clearly you've been drinking too much Drain-o if you think this will kill high end Android phones in the US.

Screen size isn't the only thing that makes Android phones popular.

* Choices. Android gives users lots of choices, you can get phones with SD slots, removable batteries, and a stylus. You can get a phone with front facing speakers. You can get phones with different types of display technology. You can get phones with much higher screen resolutions. You can get phones in lots of styles and looks. Tons of choices.

* Ease of use. I think my iPhone is a pain in the ass to use the way I want. With my Android phone I can easily drag and drop my music, audio books, videos, and play with with a variety of apps on Android. This is a freaking afternoon project on my iPhone.

* Customizing. Android allows me to significantly customize the look with different launchers, widgets (I don't like them, but it's a choice), and such.

High end Android phones will be just fine in the US.

you left out

Google's quarterly revenues was $18B.

Apple's quarterly profit was $18B.

I think I know which I'd rather have. :)

God I hope Apple makes some major missteps and falls at some point, if for no other reason than to shut corporate zealots the hell up.

Silly thread. I clicked on it thinking it's a news piece.
x2

Can't understand why there's some post's comparing Apple and Google revenue, on a thread about Android eventually losing market share.

Android has almost nothing to do with Google revenue and profit.
And iPhone has a lot to do with Apple revenue and profit - because it's a expensive cellphone with great profit margin for Apple.

But..hey, if you can't find a reasonable argument, yeah, iOS and iPhone is much better and Android will lose market share only because Apple has a greater revenue and profit than Google.

I am waiting for Apple to dominate the world so much that it comes full circle to their 1984 commercial, but in which they are the evil, mindless drones of humanity.

Trying to argue that you're counterculture by going Android (you know, the majority platform) is a bit silly. It's like declaring yourself to be a real hipster because you're a hardcore American Idol fan. You can like the majority platform all you want, but don't pretend that you're rebelling against the system... you *are* the system.

It's the same cycle every year, Apple releases a new iPhone, they get huge sales, then it tapers off. It's been going on since the first iPhone.

Samsung's slump is because of other Android makers jumping up their game.

This. As an Android fan, and not only a fan but someone who thinks the Note 4 is the best phone out there hands down, I am glad to see Samsung getting hit, it's good for other companies to be bigger players in the Android market.

I am planning on getting the $199 ZenFone 2. Not at all upset that Asus will only be getting a third of a revenue of an iPhone for it :D

Arguing over which is better Apple or Google is silly fanboyism.

A much more productive use of your emotional energy is to argue over which is better

Cheesecake or Pie?

Cheesecake, clearly.

If you think otherwise, even if you have good valid well presented reasons, I will be forced to label you..

That said..

I don't care if they make ALL the money.
Apple is a one-trick pony compared to Google.
They got to get their hands a lot dirtier in the world to be of much interest to me.
Hell I'm glad they are successful, I'd hate to see them go away as it's a neat thing
to have still exist, but imo they are on a mighty high peak with very steep sides.
Gravity is a bitch.

Google could close up shop on android tomorrow and carry on.

Since cheesecake is clearly a pie to begin with, I guess that makes you the piefanboi.

Two product lines with pent up demand versus many product lines released nearly on a monthly basis.

Yeah, that's a fair comparison.

They really do seem to be completely different users. You can frequently spot an iPhone users with the phone still in the pocket in my experience.

I can spot Android users too. They are either very obviously not remotely techy in any way, or they work in the IT department. However, IT tends to have a good mix of iPhone and Android as they are well paid so paying for an iPhone isn't a problem.

Bout right, I suspect less technical and less money are related these days too.

Yeah. The best thing about Android is that its an 'ecosystem' that competes against itself and drives itself on. Thats why it keeps moving forwards so quickly.

So Android users are either tech smart or not. Got it. (Somehow I bet that fits all phone users out there. Just a guess ....)
