how much is it to buy the iphone without the service plan or is it even possible?

eventually I believe Apple/AT&T will sell the device for $599/$699 for 8/16GB. It will still be locked to AT&T though. Don't know the date they'll start though.

Where do you guys get your iphone apps? I should be getting me new phone in the next couple of days, what apps do you guys recommend?

Shazam, Boxoffice, Pandora. That's really about all I use. Still waiting on a decent VNC and SSH app.

I like Pandora, Enigma and - for my kids, labyrnth(sp?). The paid Texas Hold'Em games is graphically excellent but slow to play.

For SSH, I use OpenSSH from Cydia - but Cydia requires jailbreaking the phone. For a terminal shell I used the one from Cydia but miss tab-completion.

I have read at tuaw.com that Teleport is excellent for VNC - if a bit expensive.

Unless you Jailbreak, all the apps are available through iTunes or directly on the phone itself in the mobile App Store.
