I've done a fresh install of 2.2.1 via quickpwn on my 2g iphone with my non-iphone att sim card in it. (I know how to disable the edge to prevent wireless charges.)

However, when I power it up, I get the "different sim detected" message and it wants me to activate via itunes. I don't really want to register with att I presume. How do I get around this?
 
When you jailbreaked your phone, did you make sure you checked the Unlock button? It sounds like it's jailbroken but not unlocked.
