The video just show how out of touch Android fanboys are. They keep thinking laypeople care about the faux openness of Android, and the niche features, when all they really want is a phone that works without the hassle of downloading a task killer, etc.

You are right, to a certain extent. There are, however, also people that don't really know anything about phones and 'just want one of them new smartphones,' while never really planning/seeking to get apps or even use all of the features. Those people -at least from my personal experience- seem to be buying Androids in relatively significant numbers. Of course, almost all of them are on Verizon, and they tell me they would get an iphone if their network offered it, but that is beside the point.

I agree with that. Most Android owners don't even know what Android is, in the same way I had no idea what "OS" my first cellphone was running.

Actually Verizon has confused a lot of people. Everyone asks if my EVO is a "Droid".

The Droid name has more brand awareness than the Android brand. Although it may confuse people it does help sell a ton of phones by uniting all Android phones (at least on VZW) under a common family name.

I'll agree with that. "Droid" is a pretty strong brand name. Definitely stronger than Android. Verizon is doing a great job of marketing the brand. I do hear a lot of of people using "Droid" as a generic term for all Android phones. Lot of confusion there.

True on both counts. VZW has done a good job cultivating the Droid name.

They only stood on the shoulders of giants:

"DROID is a trademark of Lucasfilm Ltd. and its related companies. Used under license."

My aunt thought Lucas Films developed the cell phone operating system because she saw the logo on one of the commercials. I had to explain it was just a brand licensing thing.

Uhhh, yea, hilarious. Lets break it down:

- Currently sold out of iPhone4 but have EVO - funny since the EVO is backordered and has been sold out since inception and nearly impossible to get. iPhone will be a lot easier to get then the EVO, stores are getting a lot more this week. Its been out less then a week and 1.7 million people already have one.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/19/htc-evo-4g-sold-out-online-once-again/
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/08/htc-evo-4g-sold-out-pretty-much-everywhere/

- suprised they didn't claim to sell more too

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/09/sprint-misstated-evo-4g-sales-by-a-lot/

- How bout one of my own - iPhone doesn't do OTA updates so I can choose to update the firmware. A lot of good the EVO will do you if its a brick

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/29/sprint-halts-evo-4g-update-due-to-reports-of-it-bricking-phones/

- Bigger screen - yea which depletes the battery a lot faster and for some isn't as portable. Bigger isn't always better especially on a phone. Might be a plus for some

- Internet is up to 3x faster - if you live in very select areas that have 4G. AT&T's 3G is faster in a lot of areas here in Denver. All depends on where you live, but granted might be a plus for some.

- High resolution camera on both the front and the back - uhhh who cares? The 5mp camera on the iPhone is A LOT better then the 8mp on the EVO 4G. I have seen this personally and every review I've seen says the same. The iPhone wins this one hands down.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/199845-3/smartphone_camera_battle_iphone_4_vs_the_android_army.html

PC world is notoriously biased against Apple so this review says it all. The iPhone also wins in video quality - and the camera even competes with, and in some situations out does 2 point and shoots they compared against it.

- EVO doesn't need Wi-fi to do video chat - neither does the iPhone. Also, facetime is a lot better and google will probably end up licensing the technology.

http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2010/06/28/how-to-use-facetime-on-3g/

- Battery is replaceable - good since you'll have to carry one around with you at all times since it sucks battery life like crazy with the massive screen. But granted, this is a plus. However I have to say the iPhone4 has come a long way, 2 screws and thats it, its no longer soldered to the board and is very easy to replace when you need to.

- Memory card is replaceable - granted this is a win for the EVO, the only absolute win so far.

- It is highly customizable - so is the iPhone as soon as its jailbroken again - which it has been but just not available to the public yet. Will be in a matter of days

- Video wallpaper - who cares? another reason to eat the already pathetic battery up faster with that massive screen. no thanks. plus this is probably available with a jailbreak also.

- Cheaper plans - not really true

AT&T you can get as low at $55 with 200MB of data, 450 minutes of talk, and no messaging. If you want unlimited voice and messaging, along with 2GB of data (the most AT&T will pre-sell you, it's $10 per GB after that), you'll be forking over $115 a month. However you can do the 2GB for $25+$45+$10 for 1500 messages for $80 a month and you shouldn't need more then 1500 messages. If you need unlimited internet you could of got grandfathered in for $30 a month. This is the plan I have for $85 a month. I need more then 450 mins some months but thats where my rollover minutes come in, since I have 3000 of them.

Sprint requires you to go for a minimum $80 plan (that includes the required premium data plan add-on for the EVO), which includes unlimited data (not really), unlimited messaging, and 450 minutes of talk. To bump up to unlimited everything (and that $10 premium data charge insures a true unlimited data) you'll be spending $110 a month

Granted its pretty funny but there is seriously a lot of misinformation in there. Phandroids crack me up

It wasn't even funny. It was like a SNL skit. A funny kernel of an idea stretched out wayyyy too long. After a minute it was just senseless cursing humor.

No. When I hear droid I think of a monolithic black slab of phone with a red eye and absolutely nothing about Starwars.

Well, Droid is umm... from Star Wars and they licensed it from them.

I think Android is a little more customizable once you start loading custom ROMs and stuff. But the iPhone is more than customizable enough. I feel like once you start customizing, you can go on forever. I've seen people totally reskin their N1s week after week. I mean how many hours do they go searching for the right home replacement, icon sets, widgets, wallpapers, and then go about metamorphing everything, flashing to get a black notification bar, etc etc? It gets old pretty fast and all that work you put in.... sigh. I really go on a customization fest in the beginning and that's probably it. In the end I just set it and leave it.
