Iphone user going android - help!

So, I've been an iPhone user since they came out, and was really hoping for an iPhone 5 announcement from the WWDC. No luck. So, I went to AT&T today, and was actually pretty impressed with the Android phones. In fact, the HTC Inspire, made the iPhone 4 look pretty pathetic. The fact that it does flash is a HUGE plus for me.

So, what I am looking for, is any advice on Android phones. Are HTC phones OK? I don't mind a phone that is slightly larger than an iPhone, but the Samsung Infuse was just too big. Are there any other choices for ATT? Didn't see much online, except for the Atrix. I'd like more memory than 32 GB, but that doesn't look likely from what I'm seeing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

All I really want to add in this thread is this question:

What did you think of the Windows Phones?

I don't know all the at&t phones since I don't like at&t. However, I know the Atrix is pretty nice especially for the price.

HTC phones are pretty good, though that one has OK but not great battery (the Infuse and Atrix are much better).

The Infuse and Inspire are both single-core phones like the iPhone 4 and last year's high-end Androids. The current thing is dual-core, though on AT&T only the Atrix has that. Infuse has the best + biggest screen, but if it's too big for you to hold, it's too big.

Dunno about the Inspire, but the Infuse and Atrix both have a 16gb "internal SD" of which 10-14gb is free storage. So add a 32gb microSD card and you've got quite a lot of space.

A lot of people are waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S2, which is dual-core with a slightly smaller version of the Infuse screen. It's been out in Europe for over a month, but no word on when it's releasing here.

If you can wait, you could wait for that. Otherwise the Atrix is a pretty good choice -- feels good in the hand, good battery life, and the neat fingerprint reader makes secure unlocking easy. Only downside is somewhat limited customizability compared to HTC and Samsung phones (you can't *completely* change the kernel and OS) but that may not be an issue for you.

Do not buy the Motorola Atrix, wait for Samsung Galaxy S2. Motoblur is so shitty it makes this phone seem like it's from 2006.

I used my friends Galaxy S and it felt much more polished and smoother than my Atrix. The Atrix also has a locked bootloader which means you won't be able to flash custom roms.

I don't have much experience with the Atrix. However, blur can easily be replaced.

No it cannot, simple changing the launcher does nothing. Launcher Pro lags, ADW lags, etc. I can make a video if you want to see. I am on GingerBlur(P-Rom) but the device still feels sluggish.

Windows phones are nice and smooth. Everything works out of the box like it should and no tinkering like android. However, it is a new OS and some stuff is missing. The next update mango (out in a few months) should address most of these things as well as bring new hardware. I would wait until then when the new phones come out with mango (old phones will be upgradable too, but I am talking about hardware specs on the new phones).

Go to a microsoft store, or other electronics store and play with one.

Not trying to argue for or against the device. However, that sounds like the Atrix lags not specifically blur if other launchers lag too.

To really be competitive they need a couple more updates. More than just the Mango update coming.

I understand that, but I was just checking why the OP didn't look at a WP7 phone. Sure they do need more updates. I'll agree with that wholeheartedly, but the only real way a mobile OS can survive is if there are enough followers willing to pay for it, but of course, just like you two said, it's hard to justify paying for something you like when it's barely as functional as the rest of the players out there.

Anyway, I recommend waiting for the Galaxy S2 as a few others have mentioned. They've been showing a lot lately that they're REALLY changing their ways with their bootloaders so it should be easy to do whatever you want with it.

Thanks for all the input!

I ended up ordering an Inspire since I Have extra lines that I can use to upgrade to a Samsung GSII or back to an iPhone 5 when they come out. Or I may wait till the next generation.

Now I have to learn how to root the darn thing. :)
