So I just got a new iPhone 3G 16GB for Christmas and I love it so far!

Are there any good starting points or resources on this forum on the web for new users? Are there things I should do before I really start using it?

Do the 3Gs scratch easy? I didn't want to get a case but if they scratch easy I may have to.

Thanks! Merry Christmas all!

the back panel will scratch, but more so just get really smudgy from finger prints. I have a Touch and I believe it's impossible to scratch the screen. It's been in my pocket hundreds of time with loose change and keys and the screen still looks brand new, and I have no protector on it. In contrast my Blackberry Pearl was in my my pocket 2-3 times for a couple of minutes total and my keys managed to leave a noticeable gouge on it. I should get a screen protector because it shows finger prints pretty well and I seem to have to clean it a lot.

I honestly don't know what the best resource is for them, but I Google for hacking and tips and read a little bit of everything. Not sure if you want to jailbreak it, but they're releasing a 2.2 firmware hack New Years. If you plan to Jailbreak it there are so many apps out there and things you can do. I jailbroke my Touch and have been having tons of fun with it. If you don't plan to jailbreak it just look on Youtube for a few how to videos, there are plenty of lil cool things you can still do with a non ailbroke phone.

there WAS a thread here with a a list of must have iphone apps, I'm sure of it. The OP updated it once a week with new stuff. I can't for the life of me find it lol, which sucks because I believe it had a link to a cool program that can change your lock screen. A screen shot of somebodies on here showed weather and appointments. I've googled but can't seem to find the exact one. I want to modify my lock screen, help? :)

This thread, might be what you were looking for.

To the OP, the best resource IMO, is right here. Apple did a good job with this page, it covers pretty much everything. You could also download the manual, here.

There is all sort of thing you can do with your Iphone. First you have to determine if you want to jailbroken it, and/or unlock it. Jailbroken means you can install apps that's not in the apple store, such as winterboard which allows you to change the background themes, etc. Unlock mean that you can use other carrier's sim card on the iphone, very useful when going abroad.

If you want to jailbroken it, there are software out there for both iphone OS version 2.1 and 2.2. As for unlock, it's coming out soon for 2.1 but not 2.2 because of the baseband. Although, there is a way to upgrade to 2.2 without upgrading the baseband, which I have now.

Decide that first and we'll go from there.
