Is it possible to program for the iPhone without a Mac?

I don't need to deploy any apps. This is more for a learning experience. Something, I can do from home. I was wondering if there are any packages for Windows or Linux?

Please forgive me if I seem too naive.

You could make a hackintosh (install OSX on a PC).

Also you need to jailbreak your phone or pay apple $99 to install your apps on it even for testing.

Thanks KLin. I never found that page when I was searching around. I did see the one about $99 thing. or $400 for enterprise or something...

Hmm... nickbits, I think thats a good suggestion. I'll look into hackintosh and see what I can come up with.

Like I said, I don't want to run any of the apps on a phone. I just need a setup to try things out. The emulator will do for me. I think, I should be able to try out apps on the emulated phone without paying Apple the $99.

Anyone know the rules about discussing hackintosh on this forum? To my knowledge if it's for a home/hobby use, it should be ok to be setting it up, so I think I'm in the clear there, but I'm not too sure about AT policy on this one.

You're right, if you just want to use the emulator you don't have to pay. Keep in mind the emulator isn't 100% perfect but for trying things out is is great. Also, the accelorometers don't work in the emulator.

You can make it without a Mac.

The only thing you can't do is distribute the app legally through iTunes or by any other means.
