They have always built the hype and given devs time to build out new apps with the new features that they've announced. I don't foresee them releasing a build to the public until the devs have had sufficient testing time. So I'm about 99.99% positive it'll be released in June at WWDC, like last year.

And, true, Need4Speed.. I do jailbreak and most all of my needs are met that way, but I like to have official means of doing so, so I don't have to rely on the JB team to get things working when new builds come out. Although now that I unlock my phone as well.. I'm pretty much stuck with JB builds only.

That is the downside, you're stuck until a new exploit is found. I inadvertently upgraded to 3.0 when it came out and the exploit was a a couple months behind. Those felt like 2 long months once you've gotten used to having a JB phone and all those features are gone. Also, you have to stop 'wanting the latest and greatest' just because it's available. So there is a bit of a change in mindset. Patience is needed. 🙂

I've been wanting to unlock mine, but am unsure if I should. I only want to unlock for tethering. I've read posts regarding unlocked phones and push notification failures. I know it's been fixed with PushFix .. is that a reliable means? losing push would suck.

PushFix is an option.. however, if you have an AT&T SIM, just leave that in your phone when you restore and it will give the device it's unique ID for push and then you don't have to buy PushFix. I bought it, and while it works.. I could've just done the AT&T SIM and not paid the $6.

Why would you need to unlock for tethering? I guess maybe you would if you don't want to use apps like PDANet, or iPhoneModem.

On a side note, how is Illumine with 3rd party app icon updates? Pretty quick? That's what I hate about theming with Winterboard.. not all apps match, and it becomes a pain to keep up with all of them.

I just wanted to tether with a carrier update. I do have ATT .. can you elaborate on how to go about using my SIM?

I have the illumine PSD Template. It literally takes 2 min to make a custom icon if you have the jpg or png of the image you want to use. I'd gladly share my icons with you in the event I have some that you are looking for. Mine are in the illumine icon folder so if you were to use it then any app that I made icons for that you own would already show up correctly.

@Kmax82 ... can I unlock my phone using blacksn0w .. use the sim trick and not have to do a full restore? I'd hate to have to reinstall everything.

Is there suppose to be a new iphone that comes out with the new os? Or is it the OS only? I haven't heard any rumors about it.

From gdgt:

iPhone OS 4 delivers over 1500 new APIs for devs. They can access calendar, photo library, still and video camera data…” Quick Look, SMS, Full map overlays, automated testing.
...and one called Accelerate, itself over a thousand math-related APIs for accelerometer.” New user features: 5x digital zoom, playlists, tap to focus video, places in photos, home screen wallpaper, file and delete mail search results, Bluetooth keyboards!

Gift apps, persistent WiFi, iPod out, search SMS/MMS, wake on Wireless, CalDAV invitations, web search suggestions. “These are just a few end user features. Of those, we’re going to talk about seven today.”

“If you don’t do [multitasking] right, your phone will feel sluggish and your battery life will go down. We’ve figured out how to avoid those things, and that’s what took us a little longer, and I think we’ve nailed it.”

“Let’s start off with the first one, the biggest: multitasking!”

Took them long enough. Not sure I'm willing to go back to ATT though for another iPhone.

Edit: Looks like we're seeing similar some things that I played with a while ago on my jailbroken iPhone.

"So to explain how we did this while preserving battery and performance... Scott Forstall."

Yay! They're showing Pandora. That's the app that's always mentioned when the lack of multi-tasking is discussed.

Cue the Apple fanatics to claim that smartphone multitasking is a magical Apple innovation.

No, it's not an Apple innovation, but Apple is doing it correctly. Don't have the whole app loaded into memory.. have a subset of the app that will allow the specific part of that app to run in the bg. Audio from Pandora, Phone calls from Skype.

I admit.. it looks pretty darn sweet. I like Backgrounder, but it definitely has it's quirks. For instance, if I have Pandora in BG mode in Backgrounder.. sometimes it will just lock my whole phone with that app.. Can't exit.. nothing works, and I have to restart.

Actually, it's a waste for most people. I'm a uber power user who jailbroke his iPhone years ago and can't remember the last time I actually used Multitasking. People don't need this on a Smartphone. BUT with that said, from the sounds of it the way Apple implemented is is in fact better. So maybe they weren't first, or even 2nd to the table, but they have done it in a way that is superior. Personally I'd rather wait and have the best of something, than to simply have something first.

With that said, I'll still never use multitasking outside of being able to check my email while on a phone call. Not sure what other phones can do that, but that's by far my favorite feature on my iPhone. I know Verizon's network doesn't support it period.

I hope most of the features make it to the ipod touch. I'd like to be able to create playlist without itunes. seriously can't believe it took them things long to implement that.

"So there are our seven services for multitasking. To go along with all this, we have this incredible user interface. And that is multitasking, which is our first tentpole for iPhone OS 4, and now back to Steve."

"So our second tentpole... folder."

Every other update has came to the Touch I don't see why this one wouldn't. Since it's a X. and not a .X update it will cost $10. But be well worth it. The ability to make playlists directly on the device would be something I'd actually care about. If Apple somehow makes it so I can create Smart Playlists directly from my Touch/iPhone I'll be in HEAVEN.
