I really wish that they'd allow me to lock the homescreen on the search function - if they did that, I probably wouldn't jailbreak anymore. While I love SBSettings, it's truly the only thing I would think is a requirement but I don't use it much for the function it has, the few times I do turn on bluetooth or 3G is fine to navigate the menus.

Wow, I finally gave in and ordered a refurb iphone (with 35% off as well) so this update will eliminate most of my nags with the iphone.

I might be able to get away without jailbreaking my phone now. That is mind blowing. Well, I take that back, I still want to have video recording, so I still need a jailbreak.

The lack of tethering support is rather disappointing.
Actually, apparently they ARE implementing it, but it's going to be done with the 3G provider side. So that suggests to me the carriers are going to be limiting it or charging for it.

Ya think?

Cell phone companies that I've used and read up on all charge extra for tethering for devices that support it so far. I doubt that'll change.

You missed my other post. My contract already includes data costs for tethering. (If I used a different phone that supports tethering, I wouldn't have to pay extra for tethering.) However, I suspect Rogers/Fido will charge extra just to enable it on my iPhone. We shall see.

My Fido/Rogers data account specifically allows tethering. (It's a 6 GB data plan that isn't specifically locked to the iPhone.) So, I've already paid for it. However, I can't actually do it with my iPhone because tethering isn't supported in iPhone 2. I suspect Rogers/Fido will enable tethering on the iPhone, but will charge extra to enable it, even if your account already includes tethering.

How much is Rogers raping you for 6GB of data? I have an unlocked first gen that I use on Pay as you Go. I have a feeling if I try and set up a smartphone plan they'll know I'm using an unlocked iPhone and try and rape me some more.

Man 2G iPhone users are getting screwed with the lack of A2DP functionally huh?

I feel bad for my friend 😛

$30 CAD per month, which is less than US$24.

However, it was one-time promotion, because we iPhone geeks complained so much about their crappy data plans.

P.S. I use less than 200 MB per month currently. 😛 I was thinking about buying another phone just for tethering, but I don't want to spend a couple hundred on it. The phone has to come from my carrier to qualify for tethering.

Wow. I am trying to log-in to download the 3.0 beta and it is sloooowwwww...

Anyone interested in developing a PS3 remote app for the iPhone with me?

That'd be sweet.

And a Windows Media Center remote app.

wait, so the 2g Touch will get A2DP bluetooth? Damn I might have to upgrade. I wonder how long after the release it will take devteam to jailbreak this sucker. Landscape keyboard across all apps sounds like a winner to me. For that alone I'll gladly pay the $10 they're charging the touch users for the update.

Hmm... Ok this is scary. I downloaded OS 3.0 and in the advisory doc it says any phones that have 3.0 installed on them will be locked as beta phones and you won't be able to downgrade back to 2.x. You also can't dev for 2.x with a 3.0 phone.

Decisions decisions.

That is indeed scary. Some of us can't afford two phones. 😛

That seems a little weird. You would think that 3.0 would be inclusive of 2.0 and that you could still run/dev 2.0 apps on a 3.0 device... very strange. I wonder why this restriction is in place.

I installed it.

You can run 2.x apps on the 3.0 OS but you can't develop/release 2.x apps while using the 3.0 OS (or the new XCode).

Not sure if 3.0 apps developed in the new XCode can run on the 2.x OS.

So far I really like it but I can't talk much about it due to the Ts and Cs you agree to when installing it 🙂

Sucks, I'll need to jailbreak it just to change the email notification sound. Thats the only reason I jailbreak the phone now.

I might be in the minority here, but I'd rather walk around with a bone-stock non-jailbroken phone. 🙁

lol, I've never seen anyone so dead set against the stock email sound. Personally I love it, sounds just like my Mac at home 🙂

I sometimes work in a noisy enviornment, so I miss the sound, and I don't always feel the vibration. Also, when I am in my office, we all have (7 of us) iphones...and we can never tell who's phone is going off when we are not at our seats. 🙁

everything on that list my phone has had for a year before the first iphone... though iphone is smaller and sexier.
