Wooo. Ipod revisions this tuesday. Macbook Pro revisions next tuesday.

Wow way too expensive. $500 for 32GB Touch?

Ohh yeah, can't wait.

Is that MBP revision for real or just a joke?

I sure hope it's not a joke. I've been waiting for this for over a month now. The constant flood of rumors doesn't help either. At least I don't need it immediately.

Apple would be stupid not to put in Penryn CPUs because they are now available in several PC laptops. They need to be more competitive now that they are using Intel. I don't think this will be a redesign otherwise they would have to do it again when Montevina comes out later this year.

is there some major event next week? I don't want a refresh... I want to see the macbook air keyboard on the macbook pro, improved LED screens, and something to replace the damn 12" powerbook!!!!

Keyboard soaked with drool.
Been waiting since MacWorld :(

Sigh. The money is just staring at me.

Really hoping for an update soon. Thinking about getting one to replace my desktop.

But then what am I going to do with 4 computers??

Of course, this is all speculation on my part but:

if you are waiting for a brand new MBP design it might come in August at WWDC. Any update between now and then is probably just going to be a processor upgrade. 15" MBP already come with LED backlights IIRC.

12" MBP 99% isn't going to happen now that they make the MacBook Air (I'd love a smaller "pro" machine).

Honestly, I wouldn't hold my breath. I'd wait it out if you're just looking for Penryn (as I did with Merom), but anything more than that I'd just go ahead and buy a MBP now if you honestly need a new computer.

17"er's aren't LED yet tho, are they? not that I'd buy it, but I just would like to see it. And any improvement over the current generation would be nice too, just in general.

As far as small profile macbook pro... I know it's a pipe dream, heh. And with my luck, they'd cripple it enough just to make it so it wouldn't be ideal for me.

But not that I'm waiting to buy one like everyone else. I just had to buy a furnace, and don't really need a laptop (I'll get an Eee PC first :p)

no, I don't think 17" MBP are LED yet.

They did release the 12" MBP....as the 13" MBA! So you were right about the crippling! :D

I like to use my laptop as my main computer, however I'm an extremely light user. In a perfect world I'd be able to dock my iPhone to a 24-30" screen with bluetooth keyboard/mouse and be done with it, kind of like an OQO PC. But that won't be happening for a while.

Yea.. mine is more than capable at the moment, so I'm not looking to upgrade, but maybe a year from now I might invest in a nice 3Ghz C2D with a 17" LED, 8800 GPU, black keyboard, and touch sensitive MBA touchpad. I think that would be a very sweet machine.

Well, considering that he spent like 5-10 minutes talking putting bookmarks on the home screen (as if we haven't been able to put links on the desktop of any system with a browser for years) I don't think 3 seconds to say "Oh and, btw, we're doubling the storage capacity" is unreasonable :p

i got the 16gb iphone yesterday... trying to figure out how to jailbreak it now :) im afraid it will blow up b/c i havent seen anyone confirm 16gb 1.1.3 jailbreak yet. im thinking ill have to downgrade to 1.1.1 first, which im guessing does not support 16gb and therefore will mess it up.

Argh, torn between a new-in-box iPod classic and one of the larger-capacity touch's.

It doesn't help that my generic iPod AV cable is obsoleted by both models and I'd have to get Apple's pricey cable kit. :( Can the component cable interface with HDMI?

NO NO NO, terrible idea!

As it is right now, Dual Link DVI with HDCP can be converted to the following
VGA
DVI (duh)
Dual Link DVI (also duh)
HDMI
2 DVI (with the appropriate splitter)
SVideo
Component
Composite

As it is right now, HDMI with HDCP can do the following
HDMI (duh)
DVI

There are no options for dual link, so the 30" screen, one of the advantages of the MBP over the MB is gone. You cannot hook it up VGA, so those designers with older CRTs that they won't get rid of since they love them so much? Can't use them. Oh, and you can't use an HDMI-DVI and DVI-VGA cable, the pins are just not there. There are no options for analog video signals, so if you don't have DVI or HDMI on your TV, you are screwed.

So... why is HDMI preferred?

to get audio out as well...couldnt one use an hdmi to dvi cable to drive the 30" monitor? or is there some dual-link problem that i dont know about...?

HDMI cannot drive a 30" display, at least not in its current incarnation.

As for audio out... how hard is it to use an extra cable?

I personally know two people who use 30" displays with their MBPs. I plan to get a TripleHead2Go (Digital Edition) to run dual 24" displays. Both of these scenarios require dual-link DVI. Dropping dual-link DVI would be a terrible mistake!

This thread is now redirected to MBP discussions :p

Anyways, does anyone know how much faster the based model MBP is compared to a 4400+ X2 with 1MB L2 cache/core and the 8600M GT is compred to a 6800GS?

What is the processor speed of the 4400 X2?

As for the graphics... I would say they are on par.

Hrm... 2.2GHz X2 vs a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo... Core 2 comes out on top... but I can't say by how much... maybe 10-20%? Nothing significant enough for you to actually be able to notice it probably.

Isn't that a fair price for a 32GB SSD?
Not really, considering you can get a 32GB Zen for $300.

does the zen offer a full service pda on top of the music playback? with a slick touchscreen interface?
Oh wow, totally didn't expect that response.
He asked if it was a fair price for a 32GB SSD. The Zen proves it is not. He didn't say jack about other features.

saying you can get a zen for whatever price is going to invite a response. the zen is cheap, and i'm sure much cheaper to make. there is more than an SSD card in there.

unfortunately my 30gb ipod is full, so 32gb doesn't really appeal to me. i need more space!
