iPhone noob FTL

Well, I bought a refurb 8gb iPhone a few months ago for $250, and besides being bummed that the new one is coming out for 299 w/ double the storage and more features, I've only recently discovered the wonderful world of Podcasts.

Sure, the iPhone has been a godsend, with email, web, music, music videos, NES Emulator, IM, Weather, Maps, and YouTube... However, upon opening up my iTunes to mess around with it after migrating my stuff to the new PC, I've finally decided to click on Podcasts, since I've heard the folks from "Attack of the Show" on G4TV that they have one.

Whoa! Now I can watch AOTS while in the bathroom at work! Amazing!

For the iPhone users out there... what else do you do with your iPhone besides the "standard" features?

I like pretty much any podcast by Revision3 as well as most of Leo Laporte's stuff. Also, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me is pretty good, as is Car Talk (both are NPR shows)

I also subscribe to a few Mac-centric podcasts but dunno if they would entertain others as much I like em; The Maccast, Macbreak Weekly & The Mac Observers Mac Geek Gab

I didn't start using podcasts til a month ago. And you know what? I don't really call what I do now "using" them. At least not on a regular basis. I hate all things iTunes.

are these things audio files? or video? i always thought they were low bitrate mp3 of people talking, like a news radio broadcast.

You can get the mp3 ones...that's how it all started out. However nowadays it's all about video podcasts.

can you update audio/video podcasts that were initiated via iTunes via WiFi?

nope, not yet. Supposedly soon though, the hooks are there in software 2.0

podcast is a fancy name for recorded specialty show, whether it be audio or video.. I really hate the term too because it's too apple centric... but I don't have an alternative for it. netcast was thrown around I think, but it's far too ingrained.

I think that's why no one takes them seriously (the name). Gah, we're such consumerists lol...I bet a lot more people would watch them and have players like HTPCs or AppleTVs hooked up to their sysetm if they were watching the latest "netcast" instead of the latest "podcast" 😉

I listen to/watch most of the Twit podcasts (TWiT, MacBreak Weekly, Security Now, Windows Weekly, Munchcast), The MacCast, The MacCast Loop, Mac Observer's Mac Geek Gab, Mac Roundtable, MacBreak Tech, Cranky Geeks, DL.TV, Mahalo Daily, Diggnation, Tiki Bar, NosillaCast, Car Talk, Anderson Cooper 360 Daily, BBC Global News, and Typical Mac User. I know the list seems quite long, but I'm all alone at work for the first 3 hours every day, so i get a lot of listening in.
