iPhone: Missing calls/texts

My wife and I both have the iPhone 3G 16gb. Since the upgrade to 3.1 (MMS upgrade) we both have the strangest problem.

At anytime of day, our phone basically loses connection to the AT&T 3G network. I cannot make/receive calls (people calling me says it rings and rings and eventually goes to voicemail) and text either won't go out or come in. This is a BIG problem as I work on-call for my IT department and CANNOT miss calls. I don't even know when it is happening, only until I try to make a call and it doesn't work. This is UNACCEPTABLE!

I have to restart the phone for the network to connect again.

I have done some reading and found this to be a very wide spread issue. What the hell is going on with the iPhone and AT&T?

Is there a "fix" coming in from Apple soon?

This is also going on with my wife's iPhone as well, same issues to the teeth.

If you have this problem, what have you done to resolve it? I have seen that AT&T might exchange your device for a brand new device. Is this true? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I had the same problem when I did my iPhone this morning. Mines is jailbroken though, so I thought that might be the issue, and I redid the upgrade. It's been fine ever since for the short time I've used it.

I notice that there is a new version, 3.1.2. Have you tried it?

I had a similar problem when I first bought mine. Sometimes this happens if the phone has been set up incorrectly somewhere down the line. Try resetting the network. Go into settings, general, reset (at the vary bottom), and select "reset network settings".

If that doesn't fix it, then you'll want to call AT&T. I doubt it's a problem with the iPhone itself as mine works fine on 3.1. I'm on a different network (Rogers/FIDO).

The 3.1.2 update specifically addresses problems with it not waking from sleep. No network fixes AFAIK.

iPhone OS 3.1.2 includes the following fixes and improvements:

? Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep

? Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart

? Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming

I was intermittenly having the same issues with my 3G until 3.1.2 came out. Haven't noticed a late text/VM since. Hope this cheers ya up!

3.1.2 addressed the sleep issue. They just included a new carrier file as well.

Same here, 3.1.2 fixed my issue.

I had the same issue, where i'd have perfect 3G, and all of a sudden i'd have no signal at all.

Well, maybe they just reduced the frequency of the late voicemails/texts. My roomie just tried calling me and my phone never rang. I got the voicemail about an hour later...

Huh - I have been having this exact problem. Will have to update to 3.1.2 when I get home . . .
