iPhone/Mail/Exchange Problem/Question

I have a dilemma here. I set up my hotmail account on my Mail.app on my MBP, and it worked great. But when I synched it to my iPhone, I got every single message in my inbox sent to it instead of it synching (man that's a strange word...) as it is in my Mail.app. So I changed the setting "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" to immediately, which got rid of all the messages on my iPhone, which I was fine with, because there is nothing I really needed on my phone anyway, as long as I have them on my computer. However, messages that are sent to that account are now not being pushed to the "Hotmail" inbox on either my Mail OR my iPhone. I set up an Exchange inbox on my iPhone, and that is working perfectly. Is there a way to do this now on my MBP Mail? I can't seem to find it. Or will the one I created on my iPhone automatically sync to my MBP when I sync it?

Edit: 2 seconds after I posted this I finally got the test emails I sent to myself in my "Hotmail" inbox. Why are these so delayed, whereas Exchange is so instant? I even tried refreshing the inboxes before and got nothing.

You most likely have your phone setup for push notifications for Exchange, however for POP your phone has to poll for new mail periodically.

You have that backwards, POP is designed for you to grab an email and delete it while IMAP is designed for you to leave all of your mail on the server, supports folders, etc. And IMAP and Exchange isn't a valid comparison, especially since Exchange supports IMAP.

Outlook Web Access, a webmail client, is available from most Exchange Servers. There are (or were) Macintosh mail clients that talked to Exchange, like Entourage. But I've been out of the Macintosh support business for a while, so I don't know the current status of Macintosh email clients that support Exchange.

As of Leopard, Mac Mail is compatible with Exchange 2003 and newer, however for that old configuration, the Exchange server needs to be configured to allow IMAP style connections as Mail didn't (doesn't still) fully implement Exchange.

What about just making my phone and laptop sync what messages I delete from the hotmail inbox? I can deal with the delay in receving messages I guess, but the annoying part is having to delete a message on my phone and my laptop because it doesn't recognize that i deleted it on one or the other like it does with my school mail.

That's what IMAP is for.

Hotmail supports Exchange ActiveSync on your iPhone, but there's no Exchange support for OSX. (in Windows there's Outlook Connector, but nothing equivalent for Mac...)

If you want everything synced perfectly, use EAS on the phone and check your mail through the hotmail.com web site on your computer.

Hotmail? No, it doesn't support IMAP. You can do Exchange ActiveSync (phones only), POP3, Outlook Connector (Windows only), and through the web site of course.

Maybe Office 2011 for Mac will have something equivalent to Outlook Connector...

I'm finding your post somewhat obtuse, in terms of what you actually want to end up with.

Is it that you are asking how to connect to an Exchange Server from your Mac? In that case it's simple - as mentioned above, Mail in Snow Leopard has built-in support for Exchange Server.
