iPhone line out adapter with remote control, or BT remote?

I occasionally listen to my iphone while driving, but find it very frustrating to deal with changing tracks or playlists directly on the phone. Even with the screen locked you can't change tracks by touch.

Does anyone know of a decent solution? I don't need or want any sort of dock, and the line out (connector via the bottom) has noticeably better sound quality than anything through the headphone jack.

A double press of the home button at the lock screen brings up basic controls (play, pause, skip forward/back) for music.

This is what I currently do, but you pretty much have to look down at the phone to hit the buttons correctly. I'd like something where I can play/pause and skip tracks without looking at the phone.

I use "Siri" or whatever Siri is called on the iPhone 4, and the built bluetooth in my car. So I hit the bluetooth button to and then say "play playlist <blah>", and then if I want to skip a song, I use the bluetooth button as well. There's not a lot of capability, but it works well enough.

If you want bluetooth control, then you want something called an "AVRCP remote". Search on Amazon or Google Shopping - there's lots of choices for a wide variety of prices. Maybe something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Blue...KQ/ref=sr_1_41?ie=UTF8&qid=1327428871&sr=8-41

Oh, you didn't say which iPhone you have. Check to make sure it's totally AVRCP compliant - I know the 2G, 3G and maybe 3GS's had varying implementations of the bluetooth stack.

I bought this:

http://www.buy.com/prod/fm-transmit...te-for-iphone-4-3gs-3g-2g-ipod/219023982.html

It comes with a remote. They made it look like an old iPod nano (the "screen" is non-functional) so it looks kind of cheesy, it it does work.

Buy.com has a crapton of those things at different prices though. Just search for 'iPhone fm transmitter'. It will bring up all kinds of different docks with remotes.

Hmm thanks; these aren't bad but I use BT in my car and these won't let me use my car for phone calls but the device as a remote. I have yet to find just a plain bluetooth remote, they're all some sort of handsfree calling device with remotes built-in

It's the same as the other one... All of these devices are designed for some sort of wireless audio transfer which is not what I want.

I have my phone connected via BT for phone calls, and a LOD cable connected to the bottom of my phone for audio. This lets me use BT handsfree built into my car, and also lets me listen to music through my car.

All of these BT handsfree kits will take over my existing setup, which I don't want. I just want to be able to change tracks wireless -that's it.

Actually, if you bought one of those docks and used it, when you got a call, it would transfer the call over to Bluetooth (pauses music) and when you hang the Bluetooth up, it starts playing through the FM modulator again. That's the way it works with my Bluetooth headset, anyways.

Though I would understand if you didn't want to downgrade to a FM modulator. Might still be more convenient for you. Mine sounds great.

Correct, I would have to use the devices audio passthrough whether it be bluetooth or a headphone jack, both of which sound noticeably worse than the line out connector at the bottom.

Car stereo that moves the controls to the steering wheel?

Changing factory audio setup isn't an option

The docks I've mentioned use the line out. It's just the manner in which it's transmitted to your stereo. Wire vs. FM wireless. The do have a 3.5mm plug you can use, but those are for devices sans dock connector.

But heck, for less than $15 shipped, I'd give it a shot if I were you.
