so I took the plunge last week and can't look back - this thing I'd freaking awesome. I've had a ton of winmo and palm phones and none of them one even close to this thing in term usability and polish. The treo was a big step up from pocketpc phones (don't need stylus for everything), but the iPhone is a quantum leap. I would highly recommend it to anyone that's looking for a real mobile computer / phone mix

boring

my Dash does roughly 3x what the iPhone does, and I don't have to wipe down the screen after each use

Cool, can you send me a picture message of it?

I have a laptop. I have a phone that can make calls, check my email, surf the web minimally, and text. All I need.

I have the Dash and the iPhone, and although part of me hates to admit it, the Dash just doesn't even come close to the iPhone in terms of overall usability, imo.

The iPhone has a lot of drawbacks, but the interface wins... big time. I just wish they could make a version of the iPhone that catered more to business users.

dash is a smartphone right? My experience with those can be summed up as "dumbed down winmo"...

I don't know where the sole smudge thing comes from, I've got invisishield and haven't had any issues:confused:

Yes the Dash runs Windows Mobile 6. The only thing that's really dumbed down is the office tools.

I despise the iPhone's interface. Absolutely hate it. The touch interface is ok for some things, like navigating, but put a real keyboard on the thing and it might not be a worthless $400 piece of garbage.

(oh yea, and it's well documented that from a feature standpoint the iphone is very much NOT ahead of the curve)

I have a Motorola Q, WM is pretty bad, iPhone is far fro perfect either, but the interface alone makes it far better. Once you jailbreak it and install the apps you want, with the exception of 3G, I don't think there's anything my Q can do better then an iPhone.

Slow at what? It loads slow, but other than that it's fine.

Plus I got the Dash a year ago for $100. It's not the best phone out there, which is kinda the point. A less expensive, older phone does more than the iphone, even if it isn't as "pretty" while doing it.

I own both. The Dash has a lot of features, like most WinMO phones, but there's no way in hell I would give an iPhone up for the Dash. I can't stand using it anymore.

I've had a pocket PC in some form for at least 7 years. I was ready to walk up to the samsung people and force them to choke on my latest windows mobile phone, the sch-i730. I hate it so much. Every time I see it, I want to vomit.

Got out of my contract thanks to verizon's text message rate increases and looked at phones over the weekend. Though there aren't as many apps for it and the virtual keyboard is cludgy, I still couldn't resist the iphone. Basic tasks are so much easier with it. My experience with the samsung taught me that I should aim for a phone that works best for things I would use the most. I fell for the trap of windows CE software downloads one time too many.

I recently got a zune for $80 and over time am kind of sick of it too. It's a less vicious hate because the device itself is pretty decent. The zune software, however, is so much worse than iTunes it makes me consider naming my first born iTunes just to spite Zune. So part of the decision involved getting back to the ipod platform.

Definitely happy with my purchase. In my area, there's no 3G for GSM services at the moment and there won't be for a while.

Really, that's all I care about in a phone. Give me an iPhone with real Exchange ActiveSync and I'll be the first person in line for one. A hardware keyboard would be a nice plus, as would 3G, but all I want is it to be able to have real Exchange support.

I thought dash was winmo smartphone (not the full windows mobile?) I've owned both the smart phone version and winmo 6 pda phone... smartphone had slightly better usability, but a lot less features. The PDA phone had a ton of apps and what not, but the ui was horrid (especially outlook)

Exactly why I got my Mogul, it was free ;) With the $7/month insurance, Sprint replaces the entire phone for free. Since the phones WILL break (they are made pretty cheaply and usually it's a non-critical plastic piece that breaks) all I have to do is wait until they discontinue my model, and turn in my broken phone. Tada, new phone :D

It is Smartphone Edition - but I've seen both, and unless there's little apps hidden away that I don't know about, the only big difference between the two is the Office Mobile (and obviously the lack of a stylus, which I prefer anyway).

torpid - well, I do two things most often on my phone....talk and type. I highly doubt the iPhone's touch interface somehow makes a difference when the phone is at your ear, and pretty much anything is better than the virual on-screen keyboard for typing. So I'd say the iPhone is bottom of the barrel for me.

Wipe the screen? What, are people buttering it? I wipe my screen maybe once a week if that, no more than any other phone I've had.

I've had my iPhone for a couple months and it's hands down one of the best purchases I've ever made. I love it.

here's what I don't get about what you said, there are 3rd party app's for the iPhone, and by the end of 2008 the iPhone will have thousands of apps for it. What exactly can your Dash, or any WM device do exactly that an iPhone can't? besides the 3G I can't think of anything that couldn't be done with a 3rd party install. But, I can think of many things the iPhone can do that no WM could. Even if they're mostly all cosmetic.

iPhones biggest advantage full web browser, not some joke version of IE or Opera. WM will never have a decent web browser - and I said DECENT not good.
