iPhone iOS5 out today

Been using it for about a week now...

The fonts look a LOT better. I wonder what they changed there. The screen looks even sharper than it was before if that is even possible.

Customized vibrations are AWESOME. I never have my phone on ring, so creating a unique vibration is money.

Notification system is sweet. I like how the weather widget automatically updates based on your location. How long will it take for a phandroid to come in here and talk about how apple copied android? My guess is 5 - 10 posts.

text messages automatically change to iMessage when you are texting another person on an iPhone. Pretty cool.

The camera function from the lock screen is AWESOME. You can take pictures very very quickly now. I use my iPhone all the time as a camera so this will be very nice.

Phone seems to be running a lot faster as well. Nice (I put this on an iPhone 4).
 
It's out but a lot of people can't intall it. Error 3200 seems to be the predominate favorite. I can't update my iPad 2 and my wife is having the same issues with her iPhone 4. Apple has all this cloud technology you would think they would be prepared for this.
 
My iphone4 is j/b on 4.1. I have cynamod nd installous. I assume going ios5 will just blow all my stuff away right? Or will the apps I have on it already be retained?

Any jailbroken stuff will just disappear, everything from Apple will be retained.

Well, to be picky... technically nothing is retained when you remove a jailbreak. You perform a restore, which removes all data (reformats?) and installs the OS. Everything including carrier settings and app data will be gone, which is why it is important that you perform a backup before you restore.

You will have to connect to iTunes and perform a backup restore once you "remove" the jailbreak, which can take quite a long time depending on how many apps you have. When I put 4.3.5 on my iPhone 3GS, it took around 1-2 hours to put everything back on it. :|
 
What are the chances that a JB will come out for ios5? I have a lot of cool apps I dont want to lose but I also want to use ios5.
 
Error 3200 for me 🙁 I guess Apple's servers are melting and it fails when trying to authenticate the restore or something?

IIRC, if you just do an update your apps will still be retained on the phone memory but you won't see them. If you managage to jailbreak again down the road without ever having to reformat again (highly unlikely) then all your apps will be there. There are apps out there however that backup your JB apps, so I would check into those if you REALLY want to update.

Personally I just waited till a JB was available. And it usually takes a while for them to come out (couple months depending on what the devs want to wait for).
 
Downloading Itunes 10.5 from the itunes updater was taking forever.
I went to the website and downloaded it from there and it was much faster.

Now i must wait for the 782MB file to dl

Has anyone played with iCloud yet? Ill migrate my Mobileme acct after the os install.
 
I doubt the untethered JB will take that long. Nothing was done by Apple to break the current JB method during the iOS5 betas. So I'd think they had an untethered JB in the works this entire time. Just waiting for the final version to be released. And they most likely want to make sure it works on the iPhone 4S also.
 
Finally got it after a bunch of trying (error 3200 of course)

Cool but I'm disappointed there is no speech to text like was rumored.

Unless you were reading someone's wish list, there was never any reports that I saw that indicated Siri would be available on anything but the iPhone 4S. The only thing I could see them putting it on would be the iPad 2 given the similar internals, but since there isn't a guaranteed mobile connection (like in a phone), it might not be the best idea since Siri requires a connection to work.

They say this a lot (the JB devs) but in my experience any major release has a delay. There's usually a bug or issue that affects a number of people or devices in the main fw, and Apple will say "5.0.1 is right around the corner and will fix this". Then you play the waiting game, and that bug fix turns into a few months of other fixes as they discover more. So there's usually a delay as each group decides whether to "waste" their update when the official fix might be right around the corner.

We'll see. Each release is different.
 
iPod touch 3rd gen download is 637.3 MB. 41 MB down so far, 596 to go. iTunes says I have three hours remaining on the download. Ouch.

(EDIT: Now says I have 4 hours remaining. D'oh!)

One of the features listed was being able to swipe up to bring up the task bar on an iPad. This doesn't seem to work on my iPad though. Some hidden setting I need to enable or something?
 
Does anyone have a link to the update file somewhere other than Apple's servers? 11 hours remaining!

Actually I was referring to the rumor that the Nuance (I think, typing from phone so I don't want to look it up) speech engine would be used for that, there was a screenshot of a keyboard with a mic button.
