Iphone help.

I was trying to erase all of the personal content off of a 3G (it was jailbroken with 3.1.3 on it) so I can sell it. I went through the settings and chose "reset all settings and erase all content". Now it's stuck at the apple logo. Looking at google it appears that what I did actually wiped out the OS as well. How can I get 3.1.3 back on the phone?

thanks for the quick reply. I have already upgraded to the new itunes and an iphone4. If I restore won't it update the OS to 4? I wanted to keep 3.1.3 and I didn't want it to mess up anything with the itunes for when I connect the iphone 4 back to the pc.

You can get the older 3.1.3 firmware off iClarified. I think if you hold the Ctrl (or Option) key while clicking Restore, you get the option to select an ipsw/firmware file.

Do you have another PC you can have iTunes 9.1 on instead of 9.2? It might not let you restore 3.1.3 but it should. If it doesn't you will need to go to 9.1 to do it

I believe i do have an older version but I thought 9 was the newest. All these numbers are confusing. It's a version that's at least 3 months old.

If its 9.1 then you're good, 9.2 was the version that came out right before the new iPhone. Like beginning of June

Just got home. I have 9.1 so what is the exact sequence I have to do to do the restore? I am downloading 3.1.3 right now.

Go to iTunes, plug in the phone - hold shift when you click the restore button - select the downloaded 3.1.3 file. Let it do its thing. Once its done iTunes will ask to copy all the backup stuff onto the phone, tell it no or just unplug it.

Download spirit, rejailbreak it, install whatever ra1n via cydia to unlock. Sell on ebay. Profit

Crap. Itunes doesn't recognize it. I tried several different usb ports and there is nothing detected in itunes when I plug it up.

OK, it is now restored but it just gives me the itunes connection icon thing. What can I do now to jailbreak it? I used spirit before but that was when it was a functioning phone. Can I just run that now or do I need to do something else?

I just want to get it to the screen that has all the icons, etc. even though it's no longer activated.

I'm pretty sure spirit will hactivate it for you, so once you jailbreak it you will get to that screen. But check this guide

You might have to use the custom activated IPSW file
