iphone + gmail + google domain

If anyone can figure this mess out, +10 arcadio reps for you....

I have a google-domain setup and 3 additional email accounts forwarding to that one domain.

So there are 4 total email addresses all from the one google apps account. Now through the web interface (non-iphone) I can send emails as any of those 4 accounts easily.

But on the iphone, I can only send as the main account even though the emails are coming in from other accounts.

Is there any way (other than setting up 4 individual email accounts on the phone) to let me choose who to send as?

Wait - so on the iPhone, when setting up your account, did you type in the email address you want to send FROM?

confirm that the 'show from' option is enabled in Mail settings

got it, I didn't go to the advanced option under smtp, did not know you could add more than one. God dammit I've been complaining about this for over a year now and it was so simple 😱

Now I just need a way for the main google account to pull emails from the other 3 accounts faster....unless there's a simple fix for that too ?? 🙂

on a side note, is there a way (like in Mail on OS X).. to receive my email via MobileMe, but then send as Gmail? I tried adding the server via the SMTP settings, but for some reason it won't actually send.

Anyone know what I could be doing wrong? I'll post a screen shot if necessary.

What I did was add all my accounts as full mail accounts, but then disabled them all. Then from the main account smtp, I enabled all the other accounts (if that makes sense). That way you know the smtp was set up correctly.

Hmm.. cool. I'll give that a shot. Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing, so I added the second SMTP server. It shows up, but I still do not get an option of which to use when I send email. I don't see a setting to show from anywhere, and on the page where I entered the second SMTP server, it says that it will use the second SMTP server if the first one doesn't work, so maybe i did it wrong?

Thanks!

Looks like (which is quite annoying). You have to add your Gmail account as a real account. I then turned off fetching and set it to Manual. Then I told my MobileMe account to send from the Gmail SMTP server that was added when I made my account. Then when you are in your MobileMe account.. when you click a New Mail, you can click on the email account it's sending from and choose the Gmail account.

Kinda annoying, as I want it to do this automatically.. but alas, doesn't seem like that's possible.

yeah, found that out as well. Doesn't make any sense really, you have the option to add more smtp accounts, I don't see why you can't use them.

My problem is now I get 2 copies of every email since all my accounts get forwarded to the main account.

Well, what I've done is tell Gmail to move all my mail to "Archive" and Forward to my MobileMe account. That way it only shows up once on my iPhone, and I only have it stored in one general place. The bad thing about that, is then I have to go through Gmail and delete all the spam email every few months.

hmmm yeah that would work. Thats a setting in gmail itself not the iphone right?

Yea, it's right next to the forwarding setting. You just tell it to forward to your other address and then move to Archive.

@sswingle

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem. I enabled the smtp server for the additional google apps domain that I want to "send through" (by going to SMTP in my default domain and turning my secondary domain "On"), but I still don't get any option to send using that other domain when I draft an email. Anyone have any other suggestions? What am I missing?

Thanks!

see the post from Kmax above, you have to have all the accounts enabled then set them to forward to the apps account and archive on their end
