So basically you paid $600 for an iPod? :p Pretty useless without being able to activate on another carrier, but it's a good start. DVD Jon is nuts - how does he do all this stuff??

it's more than a $600 iPod, music + pix + video + calendar + address book would be worth it for me. I messed with my neighbors iPhone and the UI alone sold me on it. Apple would be the coolest company ever if they released an iPod based off the iPhone, just minus the phone part.

I'm sure someone will figure out a way to unlock the iPhone, so it can be used on T-Mobiles network soon. BTW, T-Mobile and AT&T use the same mobile network type in case you didn't know.

Apple was smart the iPhone uses a different type of SIM card, will it be hacked? maybe so but they definitely were thinking about that possibility when they made the phone incompatible with existing SIM cards.

Oh really? I didn't know that part. I haven't read to much into the iPhone. I just know what does feature wise. But that part complicates it a bit.

it will be completly cracked, I don't care how much time and money a company puts into protecting their products, bored hackers will always figure out a way to bypass it :) It's a shame I'm now considering getting an iPhone to use only as a uber jazzy iPod. Apple marketing is viral!

The iPhone doesn't use a different sim card AFAIK. People have reported putting the sim card that comes with the iPhone into a different phone and it works.

Exactly. Anand attempted to do so in his first review:

Edit: Do you think you could slide that thing in an emergency?

All deactivated cell phones are required to have 911 calling capabilities anyway.
