iPhone disappeared from Computer

RE: iPhone 5s, 10.1, updated iTunes, W7 Home

Used to be I would plug my iPhone into a USB port on the PC and it would show up in Computer where I could pull photos and such off it... now it doesn't show up at all. When you used to plug it in... you would hear 2 tones on the PC, the 2nd is when the iPhone would show up in Computer, now there is only 1 tone... and a no show in Computer.

I'm thinking it's a setting in the phone itself... but I'll be darned if I can figure it out.

Have you rebooted both and are you using an original Apple cable?

Seems like whenever I have a similar problem, it's because of the cable or the adaptor.

I'm pretty sure on mine I have to unlock the iPhone and allow access to the PC... a pop up should appear for you to approve. I still pull pics off and have done so as recently as a month or 2 back.

I've got one gen-u-wine Apple cable left... didn't make any difference.

Open, closed... no difference.

Yes, I've rebooted both the computer and the phone.

I have... sometimes it works, but not lately.... and this is between 2 different phones, and also on my GAME rig upstairs. That's why I think it's a phone setting...

I really don't think that's the case.

The phone case has nothing to do with it!

JK.

Seriously... 2 different phones with 2 different PCs, and the GAME rig is pretty stagnant... I hardly ever update it. All of a sudden it won't show up? I guess I'll plug it into the HTPC, and make it a trifecta.

Success... I think. If I have the phone opened up to messages or something it will pick it up. Still scratching my head over this...

The only time I ever had an issue like this is when my device driver got screwed up, and it kept showing up as a generic device. I had to go to the device in Device Manager and reassign Apple's Mobile Device Driver to it.

Tweak155 had the right answer. Just make sure the phone is unlocked BEFORE plugging it in.

Not totally... I have to have messages open as well. Just having the phone unlocked and open doesn't work.

As I said... I tried two different phones on two different PC's... that's not saying my problem is the same as yours, obviously.

I have this issue as well. The only workaround I found so far is:

Open iTunes. Close the program. Reset the phone. Unlock the phone after reboot. Plug in phone onto the computer. Then the picture folder will open.

I'll try the open messages approach. Less hassle than having to reboot the phone every time I want to copy my photos off my phone.

Hm, I just did this yesterday without problem. Are you guys on the latest iOS? I always update as soon as it releases... don't know if that has an impact.

Yup, everything is update to date, both the iPhone and iTunes. I just tried the opening the Messages app approach and it works! Hopefully Apple will resolve this bug one day but I guess opening Messages to get to my photos isn't that big of a deal.
