You hater's can bash all you want, but there is NOTHING like having REAL interwebs with you all the time.

Welcome to the 21st century. I had this on my Motorola Q I got 3 years ago (and my step-dad had it on his Palm Treo 4+ years ago). Once again what is your point?
I have used every operating system for every phone, and not ONE of them even comes CLOSE to what the iPhone can do.

Oh? Let me know when you get a MMS message with a picture in it. Oh and Apple had to release a version 2 to be able to actually do what Blackberry has for years.

I do not miss constantly scrolling on my Windows Mobile or Symbian device, and I don't miss having to go to Anandtech's mobile site because forums don't render properly in those browsers.

Nor do I, but Opera mini or the Blackberry browser on my Curve have both been able to correctly render AT's mobile site. Congrats on being able to do everything a Blackberry/Treo has been able to do for a while now.

You want all your "reps for iPhone", go to the Apple sub-forum and stop acting like a typical Apple idiot who thinks they are "better" because they have an Apple product. With the exception of the iPod (which the earlier generations were much better. I had a gen 3 and just got the 160 gb one. Gen 3>current other then HD size.) and their desktops for media creation work (which PC's are now very close to Mac's in this area as well), Apple products are way too hyped.

And your mobile intrawebs suck compared to the iphone. The major reason why I haven't moved to a personal smart phone.

Opera mini works almost exactly the same as iPhone's Safari. They really aren't that different. One of my best friends has the iPhone, and for personal friends and crap type phone it's great. For any kind of business and professional use I will keep my Blackberry. BTW have fun on your inTRAwebs, I will go ahead and use the inTERwebs (since my phone wasn't provided by my company I don't have inTRAwebs on it, although there again Blackberry's are better for that also).

You could say the same thing about smartphones. Actually. Intarweb on anything less than 2048*1536 = fail.

At $199 and $30/month the iPhone is priced competitively to other smartphone devices that run Windows. It's not a terrible deal.

I got my 8830 for free after $70 MiR. Oh and I pay the same per month with unlimited everything except voice (which I haven't gotten close to my limit once).

Meh, mine comes with international roaming, unlimited data, even have Texas Hold'em King2 on it and all free ;). I doubt you can find plans for the iPhone that's less than $70/mo, don't they force data on you? The misses wanted one, but I promptly deny. HAHA!

You guys with the Blackberry, have you figured out that you can get WorldMate Live for free yet? Well, portions of it anyways. I love that widget.

ALMOST is the key word here.

No user interface and internet on a cell phone is even close to being as user friendly at the iPhones internet. And i can see the real website, not a crappy mobile version of the site.

You lost your battle when you compared the Motorola Q to the iPhone. Anything motorola has made has been the biggest piece of crap phone ever. I went thru 3 RAZRS simply because they are built like shit.

Funny... One of the reasons I got an iPhone was that my new girlfriend is a text messaging fiend, and my old Nokia camera phone just couldn't keep up! Racy iPhone text messages FTW :)

That said, posting on AT with an iPhone is a pain in the ass... I hope that the new forums has a mobile version!

Okay sure the browser is great. I'll give you it has a good browser (from an interface perspective), and maybe even give you the best on any cell phone. Opera mini though is 95% of what Safari on the iPhone is, and I don't deal with "crappy mobile versions of the site." Blackberry browser will emulate many different browsers (including IE) meaning I don't use the "crappy mobile versions" of sites. Have you ever used Opera mini? If you have then you should know that it is almost exactly the same as Safari. Oh and where is your Java support that I have? I will gladly trade that 10% for not being locked on AT&T's craptacular network, paying $2500 over 2 years, having slower internet, Java support out of the box, and for the ability to do MMS picture messaging.

I never compared the Motorola Q to iPhone because the Q would lose. What I said was I had "real" internet on it almost 3 years ago. I never said/claimed it's browser (which was shitty) was better than the iPhone. I just said I had mobile internet for 3 years on my phone, and stepdad had it for over 4. Please don't make things up that I never said.

I won't even get into the real keyboard debate (even though IMHO real keyboards win), because besides the fact it's an opinion I thought about the Samsung Instinct and waiting for the BB Thunder/Storm instead of going with my 8330.

Care to try again?

I would have purchased an iPhone if I hadn't gotten in on the Sprint SERO plan and got a Moto Q9C for $70. The Moto isn't spectacular, but it does everything I need and it, plus the service, saves me over $1,000 over the life of the contract.

I can't use the internet on my iphone for more than 10 minutes at a time. Seriously it's tedious and really tests my patience.

The only thing I envy about the iPhone is the form factor. Apart from that I can do everything and more than the iPhone on my Tilt. And really, the form factor on the Tilt isn't that bad in the first place.

I could send you a picture of the Tilt if you had a phone that supported MMS.

I agree that a real keyboard is better than the iPhones keyboard. There is no debate in that. However, the touchscreen is very nice and it actually works pretty well once you get used to it.

I could care less about AT&T's network because I am not on it. I use my 8 GB iPhone on T-mobile. No contract, I paid $299 for my 8 GB as a refurb from AT&T. I pay 5.99 a month for t-zones on top of my plan, for unlimited EDGE internet.

To be honest, i don't really care about Java support. Where are the thousands of Free APPs that you can choose from? Where is your easy to use storefront to find an Phone application for almost every use?

There is one thing that not one phone has come even close to emulating. Its the touchscreen. Every other touchscreen I have used is just horrible. The iPhones touchscreen is what ALL touchscreens should be but aren't. Nobody has come even close to their being as useful and responsive as the iPhone version.

Here's two features I haven't seen another phone do:
You can remotely control itunes on another computer from your iPhone. Change song, browse your entire playlist, etc...
You can plug in your iPhone to ANY ipod compatible device and play music from it. This is an awesome feature for parties and when you are away from home and want to have your friend listen to a song.

Besides, pretty much EVERYTHING that you have described for other phones are 3rd party Apps that you have to go out and seek on your own. I know this is a hardware forum and everyone here is computer saavy, but the majority of the population isn't. The iPhone comes pre-packaged to do everything you state (Besides Java) and more. No other phone does this, you have to modify it or add new applications just to get it to behave like an iPhone

1g jailbroken iPhone here on 2.0.1 firmware. I love the apps 2.0 brought, but damn it to hell if I don't have to reset my phone every day to get service again. It is the best phone I've ever owned, but it definitely gets on my nerves sometimes.

far far from it. I've had the windows mobile phones (6600 and 6700). I currently have a centro

nearly all sites do not register correctly with the browser on any pda phones that I've listed. . Good luck browsing sites that dont scale down well or just generally fail at rendering. The safari browser on the iphone is heads and shoulders above any other browser that comes on the pda phones.

In the 4+ years I've owned pda phones, I've never once received a mms with a picture in it.

Sounds like you owned some crappy phones.

The iPhone seems to appeal really to those that really don't use their phones or those that can use their phones just sitting around all day.

We have movers and shakers here and had a big iPhone roll out...most have been returned as they are unusable.

Most are just jumping on the bandwagon.

The touchscreen is the best one done, unfortunately they have left out other features that I don't see how Apple could forego.

I could care less about AT&T's network because I am not on it. I use my 8 GB iPhone on T-mobile. No contract, I paid $299 for my 8 GB as a refurb from AT&T. I pay 5.99 a month for t-zones on top of my plan, for unlimited EDGE internet.
I still paid $0 for my phone that does everything the iPhone does and more (neglecting the touchscreen because lets face it comparing touch to non-touch is pointless). EVDO is still much better than EDGE, in addition to that I have 3G (which means I will be able to load pages faster than your "better browser" equipped iPhone).

To be honest, i don't really care about Java support. Where are the thousands of Free APPs that you can choose from? Where is your easy to use storefront to find an Phone application for almost every use?
I don't use Java either, but it's great that its there and fun to have. Find me one app the iPhone has that I cannot get a program that does it for my Curve. I don't know of any.

There is one thing that not one phone has come even close to emulating. Its the touchscreen. Every other touchscreen I have used is just horrible. The iPhones touchscreen is what ALL touchscreens should be but aren't. Nobody has come even close to their being as useful and responsive as the iPhone version.

Without a doubt. The 8830 Curve (and any Blackberry currently out for that matter) isn't touchscreen based though, which means this is a moot point.

Okay, sure thats cool and all but really what's the point? I have a 160 gb iPod for music, and I can just get a HTPC type remote if I care to remotely control a pc. I am sure though that if I needed to (or cared to) I could find an app for my phone that does that as well.

With the sole exception of Opera mini (which was downloaded just to try, even though BB browser is a quite well thought out mobile browser), I have not downloaded or installed any 3rd party app. I didn't have to modify anything either. Besides Java, where are your MMS picture messages and replaceable batteries?

I am not saying the iPhone isn't a great phone, because it is. My issues are just with the OP coming in here all "high and mighty" because his iPhone has a good browser and acting as though he is better because of his iPhone. While I will say that Apple did a good job with it, my Curve 8830 (and most 8xxx Blackberries for that matter, and the Bold is even better) can do everything it can and is a much stronger phone from a "features" standpoint.

Alright since all of you haters on the iPhone keep on bringing up all these 3rd party Apps that someone has to specifically seek out, here is the best analogy I can make:

There are two cars. A Honda civic and a corvette. The corvette is faster, sleeker, better looking, and more functional than the Honda civic. However, if you soup up the Honda civic with lots of upgrades and tweaks, lower the weight on it, and add a whole bunch of great modifications it can go faster than the corvette. Sure, it can be better than the corvette, but you have to add a bunch of stuff to do so.

You are the one who mentioned 3rd party apps. Besides Opera mini (which I downloaded to try, not because the included one didn't work well or something), I have not mentioned a single 3rd party app. I don't hate the iPhone, in fact I seriously considered getting one. After looking at everythough though, the iPhone really doesn't stack up outside of the "cool" factor and "personal" type phones. For real productivity though (in a professional sense), most go with a Blackberry or other smart phone besides the iPhone.

It's a fun "gadget" but really isn't as great of an "all in one" device as some people make it out to be.

The iPhone wouldn't be bad if it had a keyboard... but it doesn't, so I wouldn't want one. My Tilt has a nice keyboard... well, it would be nice if the latest hack I did on it didn't mess up half the keys . My '@' is '!' and vice-versa... also it seems trying to access the symbols page starts the WiFi :p. I really need to change it to HardSPL 3.26 instead of 3.52 :(.
