My iPhone's ear speaker thingy (technical talk, I know) is nearly inaudible, so I called up Apple and they're sending me a new phone.

I bought my phone in November, so it's obviously not a 3g. I wonder if I'll get a 3g or a first gen like mine as a replacement. Any guesses or experience with something like this?

You'll get another 1st gen. I know two people - including my mother - who have done warranty returns in the last three weeks and they both got 1st gen's back.

If they replaced my iPod classic 30gb with the same generation model after the new ones had come out, they will be replacing your iPhone 1st gen with another 1st gen. They must have stockpiles of old inventory somewhere.

Well there was some confusion. They overnighted me an empty box which they expected me to return with my phone in it. I can't live without my phone, so I'm going to make an appointment at the closest Apple repair store. I'll be taking it up there on Sunday. I'll let you guys know what happens.
