The mean lifetime for a phone nowadays is something like 18 months so for most users this will not be an issue.
I am not a big fan of Apple, but there are worse problems with the iPhone than the battery lifetime.

Wow the only reasonable post.

The fact is most people replace their phones after a few years. There will be something better, brighter, and shinier out after 300-400 iPhone charge time periods. I would even say that those buying iPhones are more likely than the average customer to want something new.

You must have never had a smart phone with internet service. My Treo goes through battery like crazy...and its more efficient than the iPhone from wht I've read. If you actually use your iphone for the functions it was made for you NEED a daily charge, PERIOD.

So someone is going to be watching music videos all day on their iPhone? Browsing Google Maps all day??? If the iPhone is that important for their life, than I guess they should be willing to shell out a few hundred every year for a new one.

Have you ever owned a 2G or 3G phone that could browse regular websites?

I have access to a laptop most of the day and I STILL manage to use my phone for internet at least 1 hour a day.

Same here. It's invaluable when you are on the road or on foot and need to find something or check websites...etc.

My old (about...uh, 5 years old) Nokia 6230 still kicks butt after it has been severely abused - desert heat, rain, mashing it on the floor multiple times, recharging every night and never, ever malfunctioning. Original battery, of course.
It may not be a 3rd gen phone, but it is a good example of a great cell phone that simply WORKS.
Compared to that, I find the IPhone unattractive.

When the prices of the new Nokia N95 drop (right now they're just plain silly) I may get one.
