A quick question to you guys with iphones out there. How is AT&T service for you guys.
I'm coming from verizon where any call I made, always went through, and I always received a call that was made to me. Reception was superb.
I'm on day 2 with at&t. Today in my home office, while my iPhone reported having full bars, I've had a number for failed calls (that I dialed), and several calls to me that just never came through. One went straight to voice mail. 4 calls dailed to me didn't so much as register as being received by the iPhone. I confirmed all calls with my friends after I became suspicious at the dearth of expected phone calls.
I'm hoping this is due to just a glitch in the system or something from my number being not completely ported yet. What is the experience with reception/service you guys have had?
edit: Btw, I'm in Orange County, California, and most of the places I go to give me full bars.
update: So after a week and a half of solid usage, I have to say I am pretty darn happy with the iPhone 3G. AT&T wireless service is still worse than Verizon's, however it is something I am willing to deal with for the iPhone. I took the thing all over Southern California (from west Hollywood to Riverside), and it's performed remarkably well, though I did still have some annoying dropped and missed calls. I'll be keeping it and at&t for as long as Verizon doesn't get the iPhone.
For people looking for a iPhone cover/case, I've settled most recently on the Power Support Air Jacket. It's very thin, and protects the phone from scratches/wear/bumps. It definitely won't prevent drop damage, but I feel very few cases can do anything about that anyway. It's a minimalist case, and I like it very much.
I went through the Griffin Clarifi and the full body Invisishield before settling on the Air Jacket. The Griffin Clarifi is a lot like the slider, but because of the particular way it was constructed, it digs into the screen protector on the screen, damaging the screen protector by introducing permanent bubbles into it. I tossed the thing after a few days.
The Invisishield is in theory a great idea. I had it professionally installed because I knew it to be notoriously difficult to put on. It was great at first, but after a couple of days, I found it to attract a lot of lint. I keep my iPhone in my pocket, and basically any free edge of the Invisishield would attract little clothing fibers and cause the iPhone to look furry. It was just unsightly, so I returned this as well.
