What is the justification for removing the audio jack when the phone's form factor is the same as the previous model which had one? Just because?

RMB and HK$ pricing:

Basically they're doubling storage across the board but keeping pricing tiers similar. No more 16 GB model. Finally.

I guess it was supposed to be thinner but they ended up backing out. If it helps out with better waterproofing, that would be helpful. 'Course there's always pushing more Beats.

The headphone jack would be disappearing sooner or later. They may as well do it now to get everyone used to it for the iPhone 2017 launch. By that time, there will a bazillion new Lightning headphones for it.

Because I want to buy proprietary headphones for my iPhone. No thanks.

Well, rumour has it it will come with both Lightning earpods and a Lightning to headphone jack adapter. If that's true, I'll be satisfied with that.

I would use the earpods most of the time, but I use Etymotics ear canal headphones on the plane and when lawnmowing (although for the latter I use an old iPod instead anyway).

And then there's Bluetooth for those inclined.

Rumour has it now that the iPhone 7 can record in 4K 60 fps. This is not a big surprise to me, but it's nice to see a rumour claim that's true.

However, I would prefer if it can do it with h.265 HEVC, because h.264 AVC is getting long in the tooth. For 4K recording, h.264 takes up too much space, and h.265 would probably save about half the space (or around 40-60% according to this article) at the same video quality.

Furthermore, we know that the iPhone 6 and later can already natively encode h.265 in hardware, so the technology is already there, albeit for lower resolutions. It just needs to be scaled up to 4K, and that support could very well be present in the Apple A10 two generations later.

By the same token, I'd love to see even 1080p video on the iPhone 7 / Plus have an HEVC option. I'd lose compatibility with these files on my iPad 2, but who cares? That's ancient. They'd probably be supported on my iPad Air 2 though (and the iPhone 6 and later).

In addition, I'd love to see 1080p h.265 support added for Live Photos, at a higher frame rate. Current 1080p h.264 Live Photos have too low a frame rate, probably because a higher frame rate using h.264 would increase the file sizes too much. I'm not as optimistic for this though, this time around.

Does no one use Bluetooth headphones but me? It seems like I am the only one who doesn't care one bit about the jack being removed. I use Bluetooth headphones whenever possible. I hate having a wire, especially when I am working out.

the only thing i would be upset about, losing the headphone jack... is charging the phone while listening to music at the same time

i look forward to a water resistant iphone7 though ... i hope that rumor is true, and it will be enough for me to move from the 6 to the 7

don't have an option sometimes... i use my nicer AKG headphones on planes since it is more comfortable for long periods of time. and some of my cars don't have bluetooth 🙁

This was very briefly on Apple's website:

Look at the list of iPhone links on the left. Specifically, there is no iPhone 7 Pro.

Yeah I use BT headphones to work out but also have 2 sets of very nice cans for travel and/or home listening when I don't want to disturb anyone. What I don't like about the idea of removing the jack is that there is absolutely no need to do it other than to push for profit in new places. I'm holding out hope that they will offer a model with a headphone jack in the upcoming line up but if not I'll finally have to go back to Android and am not looking forward to that at all.

With all of that being said, until Bluetooth headphone quality dramatically increases then I just don't see a good market for the consumer here. You're either trading in dollar for dollar sound quality or you're trading one set of wired headphones for another set of (proprietary) wired headphones.

An adapter/dongle solves all those problems, even if some might consider it a bit clunky. I've been using VGA dongles for my Mac laptops for years, for example. If Apple includes the dongle in the box, I'll be satisfied. If they make us pay extra for it though, I'll be annoyed.

Really not interested in dealing with a dongle. First problem I have is that it will likely be some extra piece of something that doesn't actually integrate with the phone. Meaning I'll have to keep up with it. Meaning I'll probably lose it. And since it's Apple I'll probably have to pay $20-$30 to replace. It will also be an after thought so will more than likely be clunky (ex: can we listen and charge simultaneously?). I'm also concerned there will be some sound quality degradation through use of the dongle.

Ultimately I'll just need to wait and see the unveil and go from there.

What are the options for those without a mac and iphone to view the event? I have Win 8.1. Is there a stream you can play in VLC? Something else? A YT stream by some individual(non-Apple) account would also be helpful, but most of those tend to be people who comment every other second and you often just see a minor screen-in-screen.

I heard a rumor today that that the iPhone 7 is water proof. If that is the case and it can be used for like snorkeling and stuff, then oh man, I'd maybe have to think about upgrading.

Apple has been tweeting out iPhone 7 info. It is officially labeled "water resistant".
