Hi all,

For the last month or so my iphone has been acting finicky. It continues to charge just fine on a wall socket, but does not charge nor connect to my desktop. I'm sure the backpanel ports are fine as it powers my keyboard and mouse without hickups.

Oddly enough, when I connect my phone I do hear the USB plug in sound on Windows, but that's it.

I've tried two lightning cables and neither are successful.

Any ideas as to why I can't connect?

Is your phone managed by your employer, or otherwise restricted by an installed Profile? If the right restrictions are enabled, that would cause exactly this behavior.

Have you tried a different PC to rule that out? Might be worth taking to Apple and just having them try it there.

My aunt had the same problem with her ipod touch. Would plug it in to the pc and would not connect with itunes. Take a look at this video

It's my personal phone, there are no extra security features enabled.

It does connect to my laptop just fine. The iphone is the only USB device that doesn't work on my desktop.

I'll try the link when I get back home this evening, thank you!

I tried the youtube tutorial. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go through the process because the iphone doesn't pop up under portable devices in device manager.

I used the 'reset all settings' feature for a clean reset but that did not solve the problem. When I connect the phone it still doesn't ask me to trust the phone, nor does it connect. Unplugging and plugging it still gives the USB connection sound though.

In a round about way that worked!

The Apple site's solutions were incorrect. However, I eventually found the iphone under 'other devices'. I then updated the driver software. Once that happened it recognised the phone, removed it from 'other devices' and added the Apple USB controller etc.

Thank you!

Glad you got it sorted.
