Here is a shot of the battery life I am getting with the 5S:

Yeah, if you had 5 hours of mostly screen on time that would probably be right. My 7 hour usage shot from the other day probably included about two hours of screen off time as I streamed radio while eating breakfast, so about 5 hours of it was screen on time I was actually doing stuff so that is probably in line with what I got.

Well "Usage" is pretty darn vague so it's not easy to compare two different usage figures. We would need more detailed information to get a better idea.
I hope their usage isn't the equivalent of "awake" on Android, but we need some more in depth investigation. It's something Anand et al excel at since I'm too lazy to do it myself.

Nothing like mine. I was at 5 hours usage, 7 standby by 10%

My phone is also my work phone so that includes about 50% phone calls, 25% web browsing, the other 25% texting and emailing.

On a busy day I'll end up with ~30% battery life at 5:00 PM. On a slow day I'll have about 50% battery life left.

I probably talk on my cell phone about 1 - 2 hours a day on work days.

I think awake is if the screen is on for any reason, the device is transmitting data over WiFi or cellular networks, or music is being played (even with the screen off) on the device.

What will skew the results the most is listening to music with the screen off, especially if it's local to the device.

Got my 5S today. The bling is strong with this gold model, and I like it. ;)

Can't set it up yet though since I don't have a nano-SIM. :( I don't have my case and bumper yet either but I do have the screen and back protectors. After two failed attempts, the third screen protector went on completely bubble free. However, the back protector looks stupid on the metal back, but I'll just keep it on the phone until I get my case or bumper.

What some of the other TouchID fingerprint scanner demos didn't show was how convenient it is when turning on the 5S from screen off. It turns on the screen and authenticates at nearly the same time. Very fast and very handy.

That's really stupid. To save an HD video of slow-motion, you have to upload it to YouTube, and then re-download it to yourself. You cannot send an email with the full resolution slow-motion video, or export it to iTunes directly. Lame.

In the last few days of usage, TouchID crashed once. It didn't accept my trained fingerprint, but wouldn't deny my untrained fingerprints either. It just didn't work. This seems like a software bug. iOS 7, esp. on the iPhone 5s, is still rough around the edges. Case in point:

Battery life has been decent though. I got the phone on Friday, recharged it that night, and then used it lightly to moderately until the battery died 2 days later.

Safari is lightning fast on this 5S. Pages pop up instantaneously and a couple of times I was waiting because nothing was happening, only because it had already happened. The page loading was so fast that I didn't see it. On my previous phone (RAZR HD), I could always watch it load up.

However, the speed for rendering really depends on Safari, as everyone knows. Chrome seems noticeably slower in some stuff, and that difference is illustrated by some (limited) benchmarks. Safari is much, much faster on iOS than Chrome.

SunSpider 1.0.1 Safari: 420 ms
SunSpider 1.0.1 Chrome: 1477 ms

In this JS bench, Safari is 3.5X as fast as Chrome.

As for Peacekeeper, Chrome on my 5S gets 1107, but Safari gets 1718:

The camera is truly a big improvement. Not only is the low light quality better, but everything they said about the more consistent colour balance and exposure settings is absolutely true. For example, I used it to take a video of a birthday party, when the candlelit cake was coming out. The room was completely dark and the only lighting was from the candles. The iPhone 5S correctly chose to keep the exposure very dark, only allowing the faces lit by the candle to be seen. The flash is also quite accurate for skin tones. This was taken in near-complete darkness. I just held my hand out in front of the phone and pressed the shutter release button. The camera did a pre-flash, and then snapped the flash picture:

My hand is the right colour, as are the beige blanket and my white shirt.

I love the 5s camera for general use but it still sucks for low light and is not acceptable even by my low standard. But I still haven't one blurry shot using the camera so that's a major win.

Safari is fast but has some strange bug where when I'm typing or replying to a thread, the typing and movement response will lag like early Android phones at random times. It's not one time thing as I've experienced the lag and slowdown multiple times since I owned the phone. I can't be the only one that experienced the lag since I don't post that often from my phone. Yet I haven't seen anyone mention this lag.

One thing I like about the 5s is the quick recharge time. I can plug it in for about 30 minutes before going out and quickly charge enough to last awhile.

I got the exact opposite feeling. I can actually take photos in my dark ass apartment now. Color accuracy is astounding.

I'm pretty happy with the 5S camera. I've found myself leaving the flash on a lot more now, because the color reproduction when using it is really good. I was able to take a great picture at the beach last week that I don't think I would have gotten without a good flash.

Low light performance is also drastically improved. It's not going to win a head to head with the Lumia 1020 or anything, but does a pretty decent job.

My one complaint is that I wish I could reorder the switcher on the camera mode. I'd prefer for slo-mo to come first so I could shoot everything in slo-mo. Since it's 720p, it's more than acceptable for random videos and I'm of the opinion that it's better to have all those frames but not need them than to not have them and end up wanting them.

Apple's done surprisingly good on the camera side once the iPhone 4 was released. I'd rely love a 13-16MP camera in the successor to the 5S, but doubt it will be possible because of the thinness March Apple is on. Maybe a 13MP.

I took some pictures couple nights ago in a candle lit restaurant. The pictures were terrible just like my previous phones. Maybe it was slightly better but complete crap to crap is still just crap. I would never show those photos to others.

I hope the 5C fails for Apple. I think the colors are hideous and a poor choice. That 'dj' guy at the very end of the TV commercial for the 5C really gets under my skin. 5C is a stupid name. Sounds like 'Hi-C' the juice box. I wish Apple could have just kept the 5 and placed it in the middle instead.

That's an overly broad (and rather unsupported) argument, don't you think?

I know quite a few people who like the colors -- I'd gladly pick up a green iPhone 5c if I were in the market for a mid-range device. The real question is whether or not this is actually helping Apple's sales, which typically sag in that category (it gets lots of budget and high-end users). We may not know for months, since most of the appeal right now is for early adopters who want the 5s.

I think the 5C is quite a capable device, if that's all I could afford. Taken in isolation, the 5C is fine, as is the "5C" name. However, I agree you should look at the colours in person. I thought I'd like the blue, but in person I don't. I don't like the red either. I actually liked the yellow though, to my surprise.

OTOH, the 5S is much, much, much better. The camera is worlds better, and the fingerprint sensor is totally awesome. And the thing is blazing fast as well. Overall, the 5S almost makes the 5C (and yes the 5 too) feel like it's two generations behind. And the 4S in that context feels like an antique (even though iOS 7 runs fine on it).
