The first thing I did when I got my GNex was try and get the notifications for text messages to behave like iOS. Ended up turning off texting entirely and took like 2 days before I realized what the problem was, haha. I remember going "why the fuck would the phone let me TURN OFF texting?"

Sometimes the lack of stability gets annoying. Today's case in point: Stock JB browser. The CBS Fantasy Football app sucks at searching for players so I'm trying to go to my league page and every single time the browser just force closes and when I open it again I'm back at the Google search page.

So, I know there are a couple of other options (Chrome/Dolphin), which do you prefer?

Chrome is invaluable for desktop/tablet sync (though it doesn't sync passwords yet, grr), but Dolphin is at least as fast, more stable, and gives you true fullscreen (including, if you like, hiding the status bar).

I just tried Dolphin and do like what I've seen thus far. The only problem is it is also force closing when I try to go to that same screen. I wonder if this is just the way that Android OS reacts to certain actions it can't handle? Instead of reporting an error it just closes?

The good news is I know it's not the browser. The better news is I'm now interested in screwing around with some different browsers.

After spending about a week with this phone, and then screwing around with my old iPhone to show my gf how to use some features, I can safely say that there is no way I could ever go back to a screen that small. The 5 screen isn't big enough either. It would need to be at least the same size/ratio as the EVO (4.3") but I do think this Nexus screen size is about as big as I would ever want.

Question though, on the iPhone all of my voice mail would show up in a screen where I could manage it from there. Play, pause, delete, etc. On the Nexus I have to actually dial in to a voice mail management system. How do I make the Nexus more like the iPhone experience in this regard?

Switch your voice mail to Google Voice. Then, inside the GV app, Settings> General>Voicemail display (click the box)

This makes it show up in the call log. Alternately you could just leave it unchecked, still use GV, then wait for the transcripts to come in and never listen to voice mails. ;)

I'm not sure if they ever improved the transcripts since a few years ago when my friend sent me one of a voicemail that I left him. If they haven't, then I wouldn't put much stock in them being accurate. Although, the transcript did give me a good laugh! :)

Chrome locks up a lot on me on my SGS2. I don't think it's a well designed browser either. It's definitely clunkier than the stock browser overall.

I just tried this but something to do with Verizon must be blocking it. I haven't rooted or anything yet so maybe that's a way to get around the restriction. And btw I'm just looking for a vm gui, not necessarily trying to get transcripts (though that might be nice).

Sometimes it says it failed even when it's worked. Try entering the code from the GV website manually. Test-call yourself from another line. If it fails, call Verizon and make sure you have CCF turned on (and hell, deactivate your VM if you have to).
