the digic 4 has 18 million transistors and is made on a 65nm process. shouldn't be that hard to approximate it's performance on the A5

going forward the only thing holding phones back from being as good as high end cameras will be the lenses

holy fuck, Batman!

have you ever taken a digital picture, before?

here's what's holding phones back--the fact that a CCD in a pro DSLR is roughly the same size as your iPhone.

No, just....no.

I definitely see that happening; and it looks like Galaxy Nexus is the closest we have yet come to matching P&S:

--claims lower f-stop than 4s

--zero lag.

both of these trump the MP debate, easily.

I haven't touched my LX3 since I got the 4s - will probably sell soon.

If you're happy with the iphone, that's one thing, but the iphone camera is not even in the same league as the LX3 or comparable high-end compact P&S. It's not even in the same league as the Nokia N8, and even that one doesn't quite match the LX3.

Stop posting FUD. The only thing holding back the phones is the tiny sensor that's even smaller than those in a typical compact camera, and is absolutely dwarfed by DSLR sensors.

yeah but it's in my pocket all the time and most certainly good enough for everything that I need it to do

I'll sell the Lx3 and eventually get a entry level DSLR but there's really no place for a P&S in my life.

Taking picture with iPhone...
1. Whip out phone from pocket
2. Double click home
3. Press camera button
4. Press shutter button

Total time from desire to take a picture to taking a picture: less than 5 seconds

Taking picture with Lx3..
1. Hm where's that camera?
2. Get camera
3. Take off lens cover
4. Turn on camera
5. Change camera settings
6. Take picture

Total time from desire to take a picture to taking a picture: too damn long

Nearly a month later and still selling out.

http://allthingsd.com/20111108/apple-prioritizing-own-stores-with-iphone-supply/

We're now almost 100% iPhone at work, 4 more went Apple this month. We'd have more, but they're holding out for the iP5

South Korea just started taking preorders last week. 200k preorders in the first day, they beat Samsung on their home turf (SGS2 had 120k preorders after three days and took five days to hit 200k).

What's that saying?

The best camera is the one you have with you :)

I've accumulated a whopping 350 photos in the 3 weeks that I've had the phone...

Since getting my EVO I realize I don't want a phone with a smaller than 4" screen, probably even 4.3. Until Apple offers that its not even on my list of phones to consider. People complain about the 'flavor' of the week Android phones coming out. At least it gives me a ton of choice in size and features. Its not like if you buy a phone today its suddenly obsolete once a faster one comes out. I think it bothers the Apple people because they always have to have the latest and greatest, so if a better phone is released every 3 months they somehow feel inferior. I look at my phone as a tool and one of the most important factors to me is the screen size and resolution. Android gives me tons of options in that area, Apple does not.

I think Apple makes great products, as long as you like what they give you.

People referring to the title need to know that it wasn't the original title of the thread. It was changed by a mod I believe because there was profanity. Original title was "fucking disappointing" or something like that.. which was created right after the announcement.

The iPhone 4s isn't the phone I want, but I'd still take it over any other phone out there. It's sad I find every cell phone meh any more.

Would't that wear off after the first iPhone purchase? Many of the people who bought the 4S previously owned iPhones.

Or is this another troll post slamming anyone who likes anything Apple?

Herd mentality.

Yeah, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with Apple's industry leading consumer satisfaction ratings.

Where's that article about fanboys feeling personally insulted if their object of desire is attacked? Apple has their customers in the best position imaginable. Not only will customers buy whatever they make as fast as they can make it(By itself that is impressive), but they will vigorously defend any flaws it may have and tell everyone it's the best thing there is in an attempt to justify their purchase and themselves(Most big name products have a minority of people like this but for Apple it is the overwhelming majority and that is amazing). This didn't happen by accident either, it was Apple's intention from the beginning to get their customers to behave this way. That is why you see ratings like that. There is no way anyone can objectively call an iPhone 100% perfect.

Disclaimer: Not saying Apple doesn't make good products, they make very good stuff(I own some of it). But the above is absolutely true.

I think they're so much higher because they don't make "cheap / low-end" products like the other manufacturers do. It's a given that Samsung, Motorola and others will take a hit on ratings when there is a broader product portfolio.

So, we've determined Apple customers are sheep, have no analytical skills, and will buy anything with an Apple logo on it.

Huh...
