So I just got a White iPhone about 3 weeks ago and I feel that it qualifies me to talk about it and compare it to Android devices.
This is by no means a review, just some thoughts organized into numbered points.
Let me note that I am by no means an Apple fanboy, I never had an iPhone before. That being said I may be turning into a fanboy now.
1)I thought that getting it in White would be awesome, because everyone has Black. Well apparently "everyone" is not stupid. There is something up with the White iPhone - maybe it's just me but the white face doesnt cotrast well with the screen and the borders are clearly visible, whereas with the black face it all comes together very well. Some people mentioned that the black iPhone takes better pictures than White, because the flash somehow reflects off of the white face and decreases the quality of the pictures. May be a bunch of BS though.
Anyway, on to the more important stuff.
2)Dont believe all this crap about people saying that the iPhone 4s is somehow "outdated" as opposed to latest Android devices. The fact remains, that the iPhone simply WORKS and works every time, while the Android phones sometimes work and sometimes dont! And please let's not argue about that, because you all know it's true.
My iPhone never, ever froze, rebooted or gave me even the slightest hint of problems. With my Droid 2 Global, I couldnt even dial numbers 100% of time. Every now and then, the phone would freeze or reboot on it's own. Sometimes during dialing, I would have to press the same digit twice or three times for it to process. And no, it's not just my phone or just this model. I used many other Android phones that my friends own and they all have similar problems.
3)A lot of people tout the Samsung Galaxy S2 as a superior phone. Well, it is an awesome phone. I used it personally, but it is NOT superior. Just like the S2 excels over the iPhone in screen size and even maybe design in some ways, the iPhone still triumphs in camera quality and GPU power. Some people say the S2's camera is almost as good as the iPhones. NO, SORRY, it is NOT. Try taking pictures at night, and you will immediately notice a big difference. The S2 simply cannot compare. Also, notice the speed of taking shots with both phones. Dont get me wrong, the S2 is great in it's own right, and may be the best android phone yet. I didnt notice any slowdowns or freezes on a friends S2.
4)The iPhone has many things on it which are not available on Android phones or that are not available unless you know where to look for them and how to enable them.
Some examples:
a)The whole process of texting is so much more elegant on the iPhone! My DROID may have had a led indicator, but the iPhone is just so much better in notifying me about text overall. It has an audible tone and it flashes the screen. You simply cannot miss that. My Droid would turn of sound for texts randowmly as it would see fit. It would either be too quiet or too loud. Never "just right" like the iPhone. Texts send faster and it al ljust feels snappier.
b)iPhone sends push notifications. I thought it would be annoying, but it's actually awesome. I get notified every time I have a message on a social networking site or a dating site or whatever. I never had that with Android. I am sure someone will tell me this stuff was somewhere in the options or available with an addon. But hey! I dont want to dig for it... My iPhone just has it from start. How cool is that?
c)Games... Do I even have to talk about that? There are so much games on the iPhone as opposed to Android. Dont know about you but for me it's very, very important. I am bored to death on the train and durign work, so I have to be entertained. ; ) Plants and Zombies looks and works great!
d)Sound controls feel a lot smoother and transition better than on the Android phone I had.
e)Virtual keyboard is incredibly responsive. I thought I would miss the physical kb, but I dont! That's quite a feat on Apple's part.
5)A lot of the apps feel better and more responsive. For example some of the apps that view power point presentations and pdf files feel a lot better than they do on Android.
The ONLY cons I could find on the iPhone are:
1)Smallish screen... But ehh.. whatever.. Enough for me, and gives better pixel density resulting in nicer looking gfx.
2)A lot of apps dont rotate screen. With Android, almost anyting and everything could be rotated to landscape. : (
Summary. The iPhone just works! I thought people were making this up but it's 100% true! Android sometimes works and sometime it doesnt. Just like the Galaxy S2 has advantages over iPhone, the iPhone has advantages over S2. The S2 is NOT a superior phone overall, but it's not worse than the iPhone either! The iPhone 4s is AWESOME. I love it.
