After Melissa Thompson a Samsung Galaxy user set a world record of 25.94 seconds in texting speed, a fellow iphone user had to show that the iphone is just as fast. Keep in mind that the Samsung Galaxy has the so called fastest texting technology in the world called swype.

Brian decided to show his skill on an iphone 4 to prove that it too can set a world texting speed record without the new swype technology . As you can see in the video above brian even starts and stops his own timer and types in the official official phrase you need to type in 21.8s:

the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human”

As of right now Guinness World Records hasn’t confirmed either of the persons times.

It looks like it would be faster still if he had someone else there to start and stop the time for him.

I try to tell people all the time a fast person on an iPhone keyboard will beat a Swype person. I've seen at least 6 videos where people typed the same text as the Samsung world record on their iPhone faster. Swype's not the fastest way to type on a virtual keyboard, it is faster for most people though. Wish one of the people I've seen break the record would get the Guinness Book people involved so the title can rightfully be where it belongs.

I never realized people cared this much about phone texting speed.

Is there a "Fastest tying of a shoe" record? they both appear to be on the same level of importance.

Android users bring it up constantly as a benefit over the iPhone. Swipe this, multi-touch that. Personally I could care less. It isn't the phone, its the user. This guy could probably be this fast using any smart-phone on the market with a little practice.

"multi touch that" from Android users? Have iPhone fans gottens so delusional that they've confused their own statements with that of those with whom they argue? Lest you forget, before Android 2.0, there was no multitouch built into Android, and iPhone people never shut up about it. Even until recently, they spouted on and on about how multitouch wasn't implemented properly in the keyboard.

Yeesh. And you know what? It might be possible for some people to type faster with the iPhone keyboard, but many people still prefer Swype. I know I do, whether its faster or not. I still prefer it.

Looks like the apple fans are butt hurt that someone stole their thunder.
I don't give a damn how fast someone is typing on a phone, what I care about is not getting emails and texts from people that make their own abbreviated words.

in the grand scheme of things being able to type that in 25 or 21 seconds is meaningless.

Android people seem to constantly spout out about how Swyping is the fastest way to type, when it's clearly not. If somebodies looking for the fastest device to type on, for lets say e-mails. The fastest iPhone typers I've seen can type even faster than people with phones with physical keyboards. The fact there are people who can get 80WPM on a virtual keyboard's pretty mind blowing.

I'm not going to disagree that there are freakishly fast iPhone typers. However, not everyone can (or wants to) type that way. Even if I could type faster on an iPhone keyboard, I'd still prefer Swype. And even if Swype is faster than a physical keyboard, I'll still take a physical keyboard over Swype any day, too.

I think this video is interesting because I have read people say that Swype is inherently faster than typing without Swype and that because of this it's much faster to type on phones that can run Swype. So it's interesting to see someone typing excessively fast without Swype.

It could be, as Deeko says, that this guy is just freakishly fast and that Swype helps speed up everyone else.

But like lots of things in life, I think it's a matter of preference. I tried Swype - admittedly not very much, but I wrote a bunch of text with it - and I really didn't like it. I thought it was cool - the way that it works is neat - but I didn't like it as an input method. Not even a little. But that's me.

I'm old and probably there's some "old dogs, new tricks" part of this. But I can type over 65 wpm on a regular keyboard and I do ok on an iPhone or Android virtual keyboard, and I am certain that if I could use Swype on my iPhone, I wouldn't. Not because the man in the black turtleneck has brainwashed me, or because I only like iPhone things, but simply because I found it less intuitive than typing the way that I do all day at work on a regular keyboard. I could probably retrain my brain... but... I'm too lazy/old for that.

i'm using swype and using the stock HTC EVO 4G keyboard, and I'm WAY faster on the EVO 4G keyboard. Swype requires you to look at the keyboard while typing, and the Stock "Touch Input" I can blind type with about 60% success.

I used swype for a while and its pretty neat. The only problem that I saw with it is that when you're swyping you can't see the next letter cause your finger is in the way.

In any case, I think multitouch keyboards are very important to an accurate keyboard. I did a really big writeup about virtual qwerty boards and my conclusion to a good keyboard is this:

keyboard layout
multitouch
screen sensitivity/accuracy
Predictive text accuracy

Few phones can do all of this well. So far the only phones that I can think of that does this well is the iPhone and DroidX.

I don't see how anyone can use swype. I have yet to meet a person in real life that likes it and uses it.

BINGO.
Thats my biggest gripe with Swype really.
When I'm swyping with my thumb, I can't see the next letter alot of times.
Using the index finger helps cause its not as fat but its awkward.

Your anti-anything-but-Apple attitude has been getting increasingly virulent lately. Its somewhat comical.

II lovve swpwe., i"m usingh it riite noww!

I presume you're attempting to mock Swype, but incorrectly. Swype attempts to guess what word a gesture means - if you do it wrong, it will still type words...just the wrong ones. This type of gibberish you posted would come from a standard keyboard with no/poor word prediction.

I find it the opposite. Once you're used to Swype, you don't need to look at the keyboard as much or see exactly where the next letter is - you just get the hang of where to go.

Whats comical is that you have no idea what you are talking about. I would love to get out from under Steve Jobs, but as long as he makes the best phone ....

There isn't a single other device Apple makes that I would even touch at this point.

Loving the iPhone != loving Apple.

Fine, replace the word Apple with iPhone. It doesn't change the nature of the attitude that you present here on GG&P.

I love Swype. I type really fast and just like any virtual keyboard, you have to get used to it. It has a much steeper learning curve since you don't actually type on it so you feel weird and I didn't like it at first but once you get the hang of it, you don't want to go back. It's not like you guys magically could type fast on the iPhone keyboard. You had to get used to that as well.

Replace iPhone with Android and it represents the attitude of a lot of the people who post in this sub-forum, including yourself.

Anyone ever seen that keyboard, I think its called fat keys or something.

Basically it makes the keys it thinks you're about to type fatter. I feel like this would work great in practice.

You're correct about the first part - there certainly are a lot of Android-or-nothing people here. However, you are clearly incorrect, and showing that you don't actually read anything posted here, by lumping me into that group. I've gone on record as saying that I actually think WebOS is the best OS right now (in concept at least), I own a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone, and I've also said multiple times that I'll be getting a Windows Phone 7 device sometime in the near future. In addition, outside of DBZ, I am one of the biggest Blackberry defenders on these forums.

I have made clear that I think all the major smartphone OSes have their place, and I've not been shy about shooting down unabashed, over the top fanboys of one particular system (such as yourself). Hell, while I have used the Swype beta on Android, in the context of this thread, my experience with Swype is at least 95% with the HD2/Windows Mobile version.

I read a review of this somewhere (maybe Engadget?) that said this is basically what the iPhone keyboard does underneath, it just doesn't visibly change the buttons.
