iPhone 3g crashes, but only when not plugged in

I have a 1.5 year old iPhone 3G. Starting about two weeks ago, it crashes all the time, usually while I'm doing something. However, it runs fine if I plug it in. Its not a battery issue because I can turn it back on after a crash and it will run for a long time afterward (unless it crashes again).

I've restored it, but that didn't make a difference.

Any ideas?

Well, if it is 1.5 years old, and if AT&T does the same thing that they did before (push up people's upgrade dates so they can get the new iPhone) then you only have to wait a week or two for the new one.

Is the crashing consistent to any apps?

It crashes faster in Safari than anything else, but I suppose Safari is doing more work than most other things I uses.

But it crashes on all my apps, including the phone app.
