iPhone 3.0 OS is out

The iPhone Dev Blog (the blog of the group of guys who provide most of the jailbreak and unlock releases) said they'll have a jailbreak for 3G and original iPhone users this week. They also will have an iPhone 3G unlock for the 3.0 software this week as well.

I couldn't believe when I read that AT&T hasn't set a date for MMS support. This was one of the few things I was looking forward to with the update.

Yeah they seem to be a bit behind. I mean I kind of understand how it could be difficult to ensure that sending MMS from iphone to another device or vice versa works properly without compatibility issues (with pics at least).

The rumors on Engadget is that the issue with MMS is that AT&T originally disabled it on every iPhone owner's account when it was first set up, and the delay is while they go back in there and update everyone's account. There's been an app on the jailbroken iPhone installer since late 2008 that enabled MMS on AT&T on iPhones called SwirlyMMS and with that app part of the hardest thing about getting it working was calling AT&T and asking them to re-enable MMS on their account to get it to work with AT&T.

So I updated to 3.0. I like it. Cut and paste is slick. I like the new searching on Email and searching overall. The new push notification thing in apps works well. Haven't tried tethering, and I have no use for MMS, nor a new 3G iPhone. The voice memo thing seems a bit useless - but maybe I'm just not the type who likes voice memos. The upgrade to 3.0 and then the jailbreak and unlock with "redsn0w" went really easily - and then a couple of clicks later got back my favorite "SBSettings" and Backgrounder functionality.
