iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, you name it, everyone gets a proper untethered 3.1.3 jailbreak today.:D

---

What's Spirit?

* Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on the latest firmwares.
* Spirit is not a carrier unlock.
* If you currently are using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore to use Spirit. Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version.)

Requirements

* Any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.
* An activated device: one not stuck on the Connect to iTunes or Emergency Call screen.
* Any version of iTunes 9 (including 9.1.1).
* Syncing with iTunes before trying this highly recommended.

Just a update for those so inclined, the iPad 3G sim card is a traditional contact sim card, just less plastic, people have been trimming down the old style sim cards and successfully putting the iPad on TMobile (edge only-the iPad is shipped carrier unlocked) and in using the iPad sim cards with an adapter to hack the MiFi routers & iPhones for 3G ATT data.

I tried this on a 16 gig 3GS (newer bootrom) with 3.1.3 on it and it worked. First time it went to the splash screen saying it was jailbreaking and froze there so i hard rebooted it and it was stuck on the apple logo screen (boot screen).. i waited for 5 min and decided to try it again while it was still on the apple logo screen, this time it worked. I've heard reports from other users that you should back up your photos prior to the running spirit b/c it will delete the camera roll photos. I could not confirm this since this iphone didnt have any photos on it anyway.

Also for anyone getting errors.. if you're using Win7 or Vista set the compatibility mode to windows 98 and that should fix it.

I did it from my mac and didn't have to toy with any settings

Now for my other iphone..

I have a 3gs (old bootrom) still running 3.1.2 that I blackra1n'd a while back with my SHSH on file for both 3.1.2 and 3.1.3.. I'm thinking about updating to 3.1.3 but I'd like to preserve my baseband (05.11.07) so if I ever actually do need to unlock it I am still able to. I'm guessing that I'd have to update using a custom firmware with pwnage tool or something. altho I'm not sure there is really any benefit to me doing this aside from itunes not prompting me to upgrade every freaking time i plug the phone in my computer.

I take it my 3GS with 3.1.3 can be jailbroken now? I just want my quickreply SMS back!

that is exactly what that means.. and untethered too. also give bite SMS a try I think its better than quickreply personally.

the new version doesn't erase the camera roll.

you can mod your o/s to present a different version to itunes/apps.

it works.
goto cydia:
add repository : cydia.hackul... (look it up i can't type)
add appsync 3.2[ipad,3.1.x or 3.1 for iphone/ipod] [search appsync]
(reboot phone)
add installous [search installous]

i wonder if they have an OPEN-SOURCE tethering tool for ipad 3g yet? you'll have to look

My 3GS with 3.1.2 firmware jailbroken by blackra1n just crashed on me. My phone was unbootable - at best I could get the "Connect to iTunes" screen. I was forced to do a restore and thus go to 3.1.3. I'm in the process of a long Sync now and planning to do Sprint after that. If it works I'll definitely send the team a few $$$ for their efforts. :)

Thanks for the heads-up, ViRGE!

3GS OS 3.1.3 - took one click and ~15 seconds for the phone to reboot. Easiest thing I have ever done to my phone and it made the device almost perfect (jailbreaking-virgin before that :p). Everything works without a hitch.

couldnt you just go back to 3.1.2 since you had shsh on file with cydia right?

Why wouldnt sprint work? Also maybe you should jailbrake befoer you sync everything just in case?

There is supposed to be a "make my life easier" button that pops up, but I never had one pop up. Any ideas? The JB went through.

I jailbroke my 3GS without a hitch with Spirit, but my battery went to shit. I had just done a test prior to that, too. With my normal usage the battery used about 25% per day and lasted about 108 hours (7 hours of usage, 101 hours of standby)

The day after I jailbroke, the battery had gone from 100% down to 77% in the 8 hours I slept. By 10 PM it was down to 33% (24 hours later). Anyone else experience any battery life issues with the jailbreak?

I believe all you needed to do was plug the phone in and re-jailbreak it with blackra1n. It was a tethered jailbreak, so anytime its rebooted you needed to re-jailbreak. (The reason I undid blackra1n and went without.)

Right now I'm at just under 1% per hour in idle, when the phone does nothing - just push enabled and my IM running in the background. With Winterboard that number was drastically worse, at 4-5% per hour idle. I removed it (and nothing else) and am now back at my standard ~1% per hour. No WiFi and on 3G.

So the jailbreak itself didn't change my battery life in any noticeable way. Before I did it I also had roughly 1% per hour idle with push enabled and on 3G.

I'm running a 16GB 3GS and I didn't notice any difference in speed or responsiveness with Winterboard installed. Just the battery drain was god awful - simply unacceptable. That was the only reason I removed it.

Mainly the only thing I care about is sbsettings with rotation lock and backgrounder with circuitious for task switching. I doubt I'll upgrade to OS 4 unless something changes. I like how I never have to hit the home button now :p

Likewise. I just got my Touch three weeks ago and not being able to customize simple stuff like a screen background was just dumb. As far as the jailbreak, its that easy to do that I'd like to paypal the creator $10 just for his efforts.

I've been digging thru the Cydia repositories looking for new apps to toy with. Funny thing is, I have always swore I would never own an Ipod of any kind until I won the Touch at a tech fair 3 weeks ago.

Yep, I tried about a dozen times. The blackra1n wallpaper would display on the screen a few seconds then power down but not reboot. Powering back on resulted in the white apple for about 5 seconds then the phone would go dark again.

I restored with iTunes and it of course put 3.1.3 on it. I then did a restore on top of that to get all of my non-jailbroken stuff then jailbroke with Sprint. Worked like a charm.

No slowdown at all with Winterboard and I notice no difference in battery life between 3.1.2 with Blackra1n and 3.1.3 with Sprint.

I downloaded iFile off Cydia and so far it is a neat app. Before now, I had never used it even when I had my iPhone JB in the past. Any pointers on how to use it more thoroughly or a place that breaks down how to use it would be great. I tried the site of the guy that made the app and the site did not show much.
